Roberts, Jr., will administer the Judicial Oath to the Honorable Amy Coney Barrett, as the 103rd Associate Justice of the Supreme Court, in a private ceremony, October 27, 2020, in the East Conference Room at the Supreme Court. Upon administration of that oath, she will be able to begin to participate in the work of the Court.

Sacramento, CA...Governor Gavin Newsom today filed an amicus brief in People v. McDaniel, a case before the California Supreme Court that involves issues of racial bias in jury deliberation and sentencing decisions. This filing marks the first time in California history that a sitting governor has filed an amicus brief calling attention to the unfair and uneven application of the death penalty, noting the state’s bedrock responsibility to ensure equal justice under the law applies to all people no matter their race. The brief argues that capital cases should require unanimity in the jury’s penalty verdict and proof beyond a reasonable doubt of disputed aggravating evidence.

RCRC Submits Comments to CPUC Highlighting Key Role Biomass Facilities Play

Sacramento, CA...On Thursday, RCRC submitted comments urging the California Public Utilities Commission to reject a petition filed by the Center for Biological Diversity and a few other environmental groups that would make it more difficult for small biomass energy facilities to participate in the state’s BioMAT program. The Bioenergy Market Adjusting Tariff (BioMAT) program requires utilities to procure electricity from small bioenergy projects, including biomass facilities that fuels from high hazard zones.

Sutter Creek... Amador County Public Health confirms fifteen new cases of COVID-19 in Amador since Tuesday’s update. The new cases include 7 males and 8 females, 5 aged 18-49, 7 aged 50-64, 3 over 65 years of age, 7 residing in Ione, 4 living in Jackson, 2 in Pine Grove, 1 in Pioneer and
