Vatican City...In keynote remarks at a symposium on climate change hosted by the Pontifical Academy of Sciences at the Vatican, Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. called on global faith leaders to help "awaken the world" to the threat of toxic carbon pollution. "Until religious leaders from every part of the globe and from every denomination are engaged, we're not going to be able to move aside the huge rock of indifference, complacency and inertia," said Governor Brown. "Going forward we're going to have to find the pathway to awaken the world to get done what needs to be done."

Washington, DC....553 Newly Released CIA Documents Posted. In the third public release this year, the National Archives today posted 676 records subject to the President John F. Kennedy Assassination Records Collection Act of 1992 (JFK Act). Last week, President Donald J. Trump ordered all remaining records governed by section 5 of the JFK Act be released to the public. The President also directed agencies to complete another review of their proposed redactions and only redact information in the rarest of circumstances. The release by the National Archives today represents the first in a series of rolling releases pursuant to the President’s memorandum based on prior reviews done by agencies. The records included in this public release have not been reviewed by NARA.
Economy Added a Robust 261,000 Jobs in October & Unemployment Drops to 4.1%

Washington, DC....Total nonfarm payroll employment rose by 261,000 in October, and the unemployment rate edged down to 4.1 percent, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Employment in food services and drinking places increased sharply, mostly offsetting a decline in September that largely reflected the impact of Hurricanes Irma and Harvey. In October, job gains also occurred in professional and business services, manufacturing, and health care.

Washington, DC...This week, the U.S. House of Representatives approved legislation to streamline environmental reviews of forest management practices on federally managed lands in order to enhance wildfire prevention efforts nationwide. H.R. 2936, also known as the Resilient Federal Forests Act of 2017, is the latest bill introduced by Rep. Bruce Westerman (R-AR) to tackle wildfire prevention and forest management on federal forest lands after a previous version of the bill stalled in the Senate last Congress.
