This will be another great opportunity for the public to see what the Forest is proposing during this initial phase of recovery within the burn,” Maria Benech, Rim Fire Recovery EIS ID Team Leader said. Several dozen members of the local community attended three previous Open Houses held in December which provided an overview of the initial proposed actions and poster presentations by various resource experts. This Open House is intended to share information regarding new alternatives developed based on public involvement and collaborative efforts....

Tonight, Barack will deliver his fifth State of the Union address. ~ By First Lady Michelle Obama

Posted by: John_Hamilton on 01/28/2014 12:13 PM
Washington, DC....Tonight, Barack will deliver his fifth State of the Union address. You might think that this speech was born out of a pile of papers or a long series of meetings. But actually, the real motivations -- and the real substance -- behind tonight's speech come from those quiet moments late at night, when Barack is at his desk reading your letters. He reads at least 10 a day, from folks all across the country. You write him to say thank you, or to weigh in on a policy issue. You tell him about your families, and what's going on in your lives. And he listens. These letters turn into real action. I've seen it happen: He'll write in the margins "This is who we're fighting for," and then he'll pass them on to his senior staff....

Smith & Wesson® Addresses California Microstamping Legislation

Posted by: thepinetree on 01/26/2014 11:46 AM
Springfield, MA...Smith & Wesson Corp. announced today that although it continually seeks ways to refine and improve its firearms so that consumers have access to the best possible products, the State of California is making that impossible when it comes to California residents. Under California’s “Unsafe Handgun Act,” any new semi-automatic pistol introduced into that state must comply with microstamping laws. In addition, California asserts that anything other than a cosmetic change to a handgun already on the California Roster of Handguns Certified for Sale, including performance enhancements and other improvements, requires it to be removed from the roster and retested. For semi-automatic pistols, this means it must comply with the microstamping requirements, as well...

President Barack Obama's Weekly Address: Taking Action to End Sexual Assault

Posted by: thepinetree on 01/25/2014 08:40 AM
Washington, DC..."Hi, everybody. This week, I called members of my Cabinet to the White House to deal with a challenge that affects so many families and communities – the crime, the outrage, of sexual violence. California Agricultural Teachers’ Association Comments on Governor Brown’s Budget Proposal Eliminating Agricultural Education Incentive Grant

Posted by: thepinetree on 01/24/2014 07:54 PM
Sacramento, CA...In his 2014-15 State Budget released last week, Governor Brown proposed the complete elimination of funding for the Agricultural Education Incentive Grant, which supports high quality Agricultural Education standards in our public schools. This grant program is designed to provide matching funds for districts who commit to meeting state-approved program standards in Ag Education, including classroom instruction, supervised agricultural experience projects, and leadership training through the Future Farmers of America (FFA) student organization....

Governor Brown Delivers 2014 State of the State Address

Posted by: thepinetree on 01/22/2014 09:53 AM
Sacramento, CA..."I am here today to report on the state of our state, choosing to ignore those who say that Article 5 of our Constitution, which requires the governor to report to the Legislature, is outdated; that you can’t report on the condition of our state from Sacramento because California is too spread out and too diverse. It occurred to me that these critics – who have long recited our state’s decline – perhaps have nothing to say in the face of California’s comeback – except, “please, don’t report it.” Well, I’m going to report it, and what a comeback it is: A million new jobs since 2010, a budgetary surplus in the billions and a minimum wage rising to $10 an hour! This year, Californians have a lot to be proud of. For a decade, budget instability was the order of the day. A lethal combination of national recessions, improvident tax cuts and too much spending created a financial sink hole that defied every effort to climb out. But three years later, here we are – with state spending and revenues solidly balanced, and more to come...
