Springtime results are in: Calaveras County Water District (CCWD) Ground Water Monitoring Program is in full swing in western Calaveras County. Since 2003, CCWD staff has made the trek to the New Hogan/Camanche/Valley Springs/Wallace/Burson area of the County to conduct semi-annual measuring of static water levels in wells owned by both private homeowners and the CCWD......

San Andreas, CA....The Local Agency Formation Commission of Calaveras County has authorized John Benoit to recruit for a Municipal Service Review (MSR) Advisory Committee. The purpose of this committee is to assist LAFCO with the MSR process for upcoming water and wastewater service reviews and to provide Public Input into the MSR process. It is their desire to have members of the public, special district representatives as well as members of the LAFCO Commission sit on this committee......

Some of the agenda items they will be discussing will a Minute Order authorizing Calaveras County to enter into an Administrative Match Agreement with Area 12 Agency on Aging in the amount of $71,772l.00 for the period July 1, 2008 through June 30, 2009; Resolution item declaring June as Hunger Awareness Month in Calaveras County; The Copperopolis Community Plan; A Public Hearing on the Legal Access Issue and more. The Calaveras County Water District is seeking Federal support to undertake a regional water supply and environmental restoration effort in the Camanche-Valley Springs-New Hogan area of western Calaveras County. Critical to the success of this program is local support from communities and landowners to develop a raw water supply to meet its agricultural and irrigation water needs in an area experiencing groundwater overdraft. CCWD is actively encouraging all landowners and communities within the affected area to become involved in the reconnaissance and feasibility study.....

Calaveras County, CA....The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will have one-way traffic control on State Route 4 from Six Mile Creek/Six Mile Road to Davis Ranch Road in Calaveras County. Work will occur on Tuesday, May 27, 2008, from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Crews will also be working Wednesday, May 28, 2008, through Friday, May 30, 2008, from 7:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.....

For the first time history of Calaveras County, taxpayers have their own lobby. This is according to Al Segalla, President of the new CALAVERAS COUNTY TAXPAYERS ASSOCIATION. (CCTA) The Articles of Incorporation were approved on May 15, 2008 by the California Secretary of State. CCTA is a 501(C4) non-profit, non partisan, public advocacy organization dedicated to protecting and promoting the interests of approximately 50,000 taxpayers of which about 35,000 are property owners. The CCTA mission statement states: “We recognize the human rights to liberty and property in a free society”..... |

State Supreme Court Releases Long-Awaited Decision on Clearcutting Litigation~From Addie Jacobson |

Sacramento, CA....After seven years of litigation, the California State Supreme Court released a decision today that directly affects clearcut logging plans by Sierra Pacific Industries (SPI) in the Sierra Nevada region. The Court’s decision favored the lumber company in its claim that it does not need to do a more thorough job of assessing the cumulative impacts of clearcuts on wildlife across its vast timberlands in the State. Rather than ruling on the merits of whether or not clearcuts were harmful to wildlife or whether herbicide spraying caused environmental damage, the Court narrowly focused on technical points concerning adequacy of review....
