Attorney General Becerra Blasts Department of Education Decision to Roll Back Protections for Survivors of Campus Sexual Violence

Posted by: thepinetree on 09/07/2017 03:14 PM
Sacramento, CA...Today, California Attorney General Xavier Becerra blasted U.S. Department of Education Secretary Betsy DeVos’ announcement that she will significantly scale back Title IX protections for students who are survivors of sexual violence on college campuses: “Students in California, and across the country, pursue higher education with the hope of earning a degree, landing their dream job and making a difference,” said Attorney General Becerra. “When those college students become victims of sexual violence, we should do everything we can to help them, not slash protections in place to ensure their safety. It should be the Department of Education’s number one goal to ensure all students can learn in a safe environment. Secretary DeVos should be ashamed of her decision to surrender protections and robust efforts implemented by Title IX that hold schools accountable.”

Posted by: thepinetree on 09/07/2017 03:48 PM
Menlo Park, CA, Yesterday Facebook's Chief Security Officer Alex Stamos posted information on ad purchases during the 2016 Election cycle from probable Russian accounts. His release from yesterday is as follows..."There have been a lot of questions since the 2016 US election about Russian interference in the electoral process. In April we published a white paper that outlined our understanding of organized attempts to misuse our platform. One question that has emerged is whether there’s a connection between the Russian efforts and ads purchased on Facebook. These are serious claims and we’ve been reviewing a range of activity on our platform to help understand what happened.

President Donald J. Trump on Repealing DACA

Posted by: thepinetree on 09/05/2017 09:37 AM
As President, my highest duty is to defend the American people and the Constitution of the United States of America. At the same time, I do not favor punishing children, most of whom are now adults, for the actions of their parents. But we must also recognize that we are nation of opportunity because we are a nation of laws. The legislative branch, not the executive branch, writes these laws – this is the bedrock of our Constitutional system, which I took a solemn oath to preserve, protect, and defend.

Time For UN to Draw a Red Line Around North Korea? ~ By John Hamilton

Posted by: thepinetree on 09/03/2017 01:02 PM
Pyongyang, North Korea....Now that North Korea has successfully tested a Hydrogen Bomb is it time to draw a meaningful "Red Line" around the entire country? With shooting a missile over Japan last week and with this week's H-Bomb test the window for the international community to act short of military options may be closing. Since they have shown they have no interest in being part of a peaceful community of nations how about how about this as a framework for a UN Resolution?

Secretary Mattis Statement On North Korea At Whitehouse

Posted by: thepinetree on 09/03/2017 04:43 PM
Washington, DC...We had a small group national security meeting today with the President and the Vice President about the latest provocation on the Korean peninsula. We have many military options, and the President wanted to be briefed on each one of them. We made clear that we have the ability to defend ourselves and our allies – South Korea and Japan – from any attack. And our commitments among the allies are ironclad.

State Department Orders Russian Consulate in SF to Close

Posted by: thepinetree on 08/31/2017 12:02 PM
San Francisco, CA...The United States has fully implemented the decision by the Government of the Russian Federation to reduce the size of our mission in Russia. We believe this action was unwarranted and detrimental to the overall relationship between our countries. In the spirit of parity invoked by the Russians, we are requiring the Russian Government to close its Consulate General in San Francisco, a chancery annex in Washington, D.C., and a consular annex in New York City. These closures will need to be accomplished by September 2.

Some Wells in Amador County May be a Bit Radioactive

Posted by: thepinetree on 08/31/2017 04:40 PM
Jackson, CA - California’s groundwater may contain naturally occurring radioactivity. Radioactive minerals occur irregularly in California’s bedrock, and when dissolved in water, radionuclides are colorless, odorless, and tasteless. Unlike community water systems, private wells in California are not routinely regulated or monitored for contaminants like radionuclides. As a result, well owners are responsible for ensuring their drinking water is safe. In some well water, the concentrations of radionuclides exceed public drinking water standards, called maximum contaminant levels (MCLs).
