Los Angeles, CA...Seven and a half years after taking office and inheriting a $27 billion budget deficit, California Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today signed his final state budget, which fills the Rainy Day Fund to the brim and sends record funding to California’s classrooms. “When I took office back in 2011 with the state facing a $27 billion deficit, I pledged to work with the Legislature to fix California’s financial mess,” said Governor Brown. “Today, the final budget I sign delivers on that pledge and prepares us for the future.”

Mokelumne River Becomes California’s Newest Wild and Scenic River

Mokelumne Hill, CA...Thirty-seven miles of the North Fork and main stem of the Mokelumne River running through Amador and Calaveras counties became California’s 12th California Wild and Scenic River on June 27, 2018, when Governor Edmund G. Brown signed SB 854. The legislation was passed by the State Assembly and Senate on Thursday, June 14.

Washington, DC...On June 22 in Geneva, officials from the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration (PRM) and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) held an all-day senior-level review of the 2018-2019 PRM-UNHCR Framework for Cooperation. First signed in 2000, the biennial Framework for Cooperation focuses on shared goals and priorities consistent with UN humanitarian reform efforts as well as oversight, monitoring, communications, and reporting requirements at an institutional level between UNHCR and its largest single donor, the United States. Given the unprecedented and increasing gap between needs and assistance, these Framework discussions present an opportunity to determine the best and most impactful use of U.S. taxpayer dollars.

Governor Brown Appoints David M. Sanders to Calaveras County Superior Court

Sacramento, CA...David M. Sanders, 63, of Pioneer, has been appointed to a judgeship in the Calaveras County Superior Court. Sanders has served as a commissioner at the Calaveras County Superior Court since 2015. He was a supervising attorney at Field and Sanders from 2009 to 2014 and at King Warwick and Sanders from 2002 to 2009. Sanders was an associate at Pagliero and Associates 1996 to 1999 and a partner at Pagliero and Sanders from 1999 to 2002 and a sole practitioner from 1993 to 1996. He was an associate at Johnson, Pagliero and Schachter from 1990 to 1993 and at Bullen, McKone, McKinley, Gay, Keitges and Pach from 1987 to 1990.
