The 2017-2018 Civil Grand Jury Final Report

Posted by: thepinetree on 06/28/2018 08:57 PM
San Andreas, CA...Dear Judge Healy, The 2017-2018 Civil Grand Jury respectfully submits its final report in accordance with Penal Code 933(a) to the Calaveras County Superior Court. This year’s Grand Jury was composed of 19 dedicated citizens of Calaveras County who were determined and willing to work extra-long hours making recommendations for improvements to local government. It has been an unforgettable experience to work alongside these individuals who chose to prioritize tasks and duties in order to perform their jurisdictional rights to investigate any local government agencies. They also went far beyond my expectations in taking initiative to attend report writing workshops in Sacramento, the California Grand Juror’s Association conference in Monterey, and additional meetings at the Jury House. Their dedication to the Grand Jury is noted and appreciated.

With a 20-million-square-foot campus situated on 3,000 acres, the new Foxconn plant will be among the largest factories ever built in the United States. It will take two years and 10,000 construction workers to build, and employ 13,000 workers when in full production of a variety of LCD screens. It is one of the largest foreign direct investments ever made in the United States.

Justice Alito Delivered the Opinion of the Court in Case That Weakens Union Power

Posted by: thepinetree on 06/27/2018 08:46 AM
Washington, DC...From the Opinion of the Court.."Under Illinois law, public employees are forced to subsidize a union, even if they choose not to join and strongly object to the positions the union takes in collective bargaining and related activities. We conclude that this arrangement violates the free speech rights of nonmembers by compelling them to subsidize private speech on matters of substantial public concern.

Teacher's Union Says "Supreme Court Sides with Corporations and Billionaires Against Working People"

Posted by: thepinetree on 06/27/2018 12:03 PM
Burlingame, CA...The U.S. Supreme Court today issued a 5-4 decision in a case that had been bankrolled by corporate interests who wanted to rig the economic system further in their favor and make it even harder for working people to come together and speak up for each other. The ruling is a radical interpretation of the First Amendment and is a sweeping paradigm shift as it will make it more difficult for public workers to bargain collectively. The case, Janus v. American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees, Council 31, sought to overturn common sense jurisprudence that was established more than 40 years ago in Abood v. Detroit Board of Education.
