Washington, D.C....Secretary Mattis, General Selva, Your Royal Highness, members of the Cabinet, distinguished members of Congress, members of our Armed Forces, including the 3rd Infantry Old Guard who distinguished themselves on this day, 17 years ago; honored guests, fellow Americans, Pentagon personnel, first responders, and most especially — most especially to the family members of those who left this life, on these grounds, 17 years ago today: It is deeply humbling for Karen and me to join you here at this National 9/11 Pentagon Memorial for the 2018 Observance fulfilling a promise engraved on the gateway of this hallowed ground that we “will never forget” what took place in this place on that fateful morning.

Shanksville, PA...Thank you very much. Thank you very much, Ryan. So beautiful. We’re gathered together on these hallowed grounds to honor the memory of nearly 3,000 souls who were murdered on this day 17 years ago. We’re here to pay solemn tribute to the 40 passengers and crewmembers on Flight 93 who rose up, defied the enemy, took control of their destiny, and changed the course of history. Today, we mourn their loss. We share their story. And we commemorate their incredible valor. On September 11th, 2001, a band of brave patriots turned the tide on our nation’s enemies, and joined the immortal ranks of American heroes.

Brown Jr. signed legislation – SB 834 by Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson (D-Santa Barbara) and AB 1775 by Assemblymember Al Muratsuchi (D-Torrance) – to block new federal offshore oil drilling along California’s coast, and announced the state’s opposition to the federal government’s plan to expand oil drilling on public lands in California.

Sacramento, CA...Reaffirming California’s global climate leadership, Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today signed Senate Bill 100, authored by Senate President pro Tempore Emeritus Kevin de León, setting a 100 percent clean electricity goal for the state, and issued an executive order establishing a new target to achieve carbon neutrality – both by 2045. “This bill and the executive order put California on a path to meet the goals of Paris and beyond. It will not be easy. It will not be immediate. But it must be done,” said Governor Brown.

Washington, DC...Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and Rep. Ro Khanna (D-Calif.) announced legislation Wednesday to give large, profitable corporations such as Amazon and Walmart a choice: pay workers a living wage or pay for the public assistance programs like Medicaid, food stamps and public housing its low-wage workers are forced to rely on. Low wages cost taxpayers about $150 billion per year, according to a study from the University of California, Berkeley Labor Center.
Forest Service Open House Sept. 6 to Discuss Potential Snowmobile Restrictions in OSV Draft EIS

Sonora, CA...Forest Supervisor Jason Kuiken will host an open house Thursday, Sept. 6, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Stanislaus National Forest Supervisor’s Office. Members of the public may review maps and discuss the draft Environmental Impact Statement alternatives with forest staff. Maps of the proposed Over-Snow vehicle-use designations for each alternative will be on display.
