Governor Brown and Attorney General Becerra Honor Five Public Safety Officials with Medal of Valor Awards

Posted by: thepinetree on 11/05/2018 10:32 AM
Sacramento, CA...Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. joined Attorney General Xavier Becerra on October 29th to present the Public Safety Officer Medal of Valor to five public safety leaders from the California Highway Patrol (CHP) and the Yuba County Sheriff’s Department who went above and beyond the call of duty. “American democracy is not going to work if it’s just based on self-interest or people trying to get what they want. It’s also based on serving a much higher ideal,” said Governor Brown. “Men and women in uniform demonstrate that more than anyone – and that’s why we have a medal of valor and honor these individuals today.”

Attorney General Becerra; Yuba County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Sheriff Dan Harris; CHP’s Officer Pete Gavitte, Officer Phil Agdeppa, Officer Whitney Lowe and Officer Chad Millward; and Governor Brown.

Senate Judiciary Committee Releases Summary of Investigation from Supreme Court Confirmation

Posted by: thepinetree on 11/05/2018 11:43 AM
Washington, DC...Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley of Iowa is releasing a summary report on the committee majority’s investigation of misconduct allegations presented during the confirmation process of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh. “The revelation of last minute allegations tested the committee in many ways. But these investigative efforts rose to the occasion and were critical to helping us obtain the truth. This was a serious and thorough investigation that left no stone unturned in our pursuit of the facts,” Grassley said. “In the end, there was no credible evidence to support the allegations against the nominee.”

The Rise of Digital Authoritarianism and the Challenge to Democracy

Posted by: thepinetree on 11/02/2018 11:43 AM
Washington, DC...Governments around the world are tightening control over citizens’ data and using claims of “fake news” to suppress dissent, eroding trust in the internet as well as the foundations of democracy, according to Freedom on the Net 2018: The Rise of Digital Authoritarianism,  the latest edition of the annual country-by-country assessment of online freedom, released today by Freedom House. Online propaganda and disinformation have increasingly poisoned the digital sphere, while the unbridled collection of personal data is breaking down traditional notions of privacy. At the same time, China has become more brazen and adept at controlling the internet at home and exporting its techniques to other countries.

Presidential Proclamation on National Entrepreneurship Month, 2018

Posted by: thepinetree on 10/31/2018 06:08 PM
Washington, DC...Since the founding of our Nation, generations of Americans have drawn upon every last measure of grit and determination to push the limits of human knowledge, invention, and capability. Our Nation thrives today because bold entrepreneurs and innovators had vision and drive, stopping at nothing to realize their dreams. This intrepid spirit, which burns in the heart of so many Americans, kept Edison working into the candlelit hours, lifted Earhart to new heights, and put a computer in every home. And under my Administration’s policies, optimism among our Nation’s small businesses and entrepreneurs recently reached the highest level ever recorded. During National Entrepreneurship Month, we celebrate the Americans who forge new frontiers of possibility and prosperity, and we reaffirm our commitment to creating an environment in which they can continue to drive our country’s economic success.
