Posted by: thepinetree on 06/20/2019 08:19 AM
Washington, DC....Well, this is a big day.  Very important for a very important subject.  Today it’s my privilege to award our nation’s highest civilian honor to the father of supply-side economics: Dr. Arthur Laffer.  (Applause.) I know Art has been to the Oval Office, unlike most people, many times.  But this is a very special time for you.  This is a tremendous award.  You have the Congressional Medal of Honor on the military side, which, of course, is something incredibly special.  And the presidential medal is — I just want to congratulate you.  There’s nothing like it, right?

Washington, DC...Well, thank you very much. We had some good news. The market hit a all-time high today. The S&P just broke its record, so we’re very happy about that. The stock market continues to do well. Jobs have been literally through the roof. And, speaking of jobs, we have the USMCA with Canada, with Mexico. And we’ve come a long way. It’s a great agreement. As you know, Mexico, yesterday, approved it.

Governor Gavin Newsom today issued an apology through executive order on behalf of California to California Native American Peoples for the many instances of violence, mistreatment and neglect inflicted upon California Native Americans throughout the state’s history. The Governor also announced the creation of a Truth and Healing Council to provide an avenue for California Native Americans to clarify the record – and provide their historical perspective – on the troubled relationship between tribes and the state. This is the first time a state has taken dual action to correct the historical record and acknowledge wrongdoing through executive order mandate and a tribally-led, consultation-informed council.

Sacramento, CA... Governor Gavin Newsom issued the following statement in response to the Trump Administration’s so-called Affordable Clean Energy Rule: “The deceptively named Affordable Clean Energy Rule fails to protect Americans from the rising environmental and health costs of climate change – and our children will pay the most because of dirty air, deadly heat waves, droughts and wildfires.

Presidential Message on Juneteenth, 2019

Posted by: thepinetree on 06/19/2019 10:53 PM
Washington, DC...Melania and I send our best wishes for a memorable celebration to all those commemorating Juneteenth. On June 19, 1865, Major General Gordon Granger of the United States Army marched into Galveston, Texas, and issued General Order Number 3, declaring, “all slaves are free.” With this order, the message enshrined in President Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation of 1863 was brought to Texas, unshackling thousands of slaves who had remained in bondage. Six months later, the Thirteenth Amendment was ratified, abolishing slavery in the United States once and for all.
