Prescribed Burns Continue in Calaveras Big Trees State Park Area

Posted by: thepinetree on 11/12/2019 07:03 AM
Arnold, CA...California State Parks in cooperation with the California Department of Forestry and Fire protection (CAL FIRE) are planning to begin a series of prescribed burns beginning on or around the week of October 21, 2019 through the end of November in Calaveras Big Trees State Park. The goal is to complete 382 acres this fall (see maps below). Ignitions are expected to occur when weather conditions are favorable and adequate resources are available. Some of the units have been previously thinned to reduce the fuel loading, which allows for a safer and more controllable broadcast burn. Much of this work was funded through Propositions 84 and 1 grant from the Sierra Nevada Conservancy, an agency of the State of California.

The White House on the Political Situation in Iraq

Posted by: thepinetree on 11/11/2019 07:36 PM
Washington, DC...The United States is seriously concerned by continued attacks against protestors, civic activists, and the media, as well as restrictions on Internet access, in Iraq. Iraqis won’t stand by as the Iranian regime drains their resources and uses armed groups and political allies to stop them from peacefully expressing their views. Despite being targeted with lethal violence and denied access to the Internet, the Iraqi people have made their voices heard, calling for elections and election reforms.

A Look Back at President Reagan's "Berlin Wall" Speech at the Brandenburg Gate

Posted by: thepinetree on 11/09/2019 10:07 AM
Berlin, Germany....Today marks the 30th Anniversary of the Berlin Wall coming down and the start of the reunification of the friends, families & eventually East & West Germany. The wall was a hated and physical symbol of the totalitarian governments of the Soviet Bloc nations and their oppression of individual freedoms. There are lessons still to be learned from the post World War II history and mistakes not to be repeated. So today we celebrate the freedoms for millions in a post Soviet Era world. The wall fell 30 years ago but the concrete and rebar started to crumble two years earlier in a historic speech by President Reagan. His complete speech in text and video is below

Posted by: thepinetree on 11/07/2019 09:31 AM
Washington, DC...U.S. Senator Kamala D. Harris (D-CA) on Wednesday introduced the Family Friendly Schools Act, first-of-its-kind legislation to align the school day with the work day to better support working families.“My mother raised my sister and me while working demanding, long hours,” said Senator Harris. “So, I know firsthand that, for many working parents, juggling between school schedules and work schedules is a common cause of stress and financial hardship. But, this does not have to be the case. My bill provides an innovative solution that will help reduce the burden of child care on working families. It is time we modernize the school schedule to better meet the needs of our students and their families.”

Washington, DC...A wonderful family and friends from Utah got caught between two vicious drug cartels, who were shooting at each other, with the result being many great American people killed, including young children, and some missing. If Mexico needs or requests help in cleaning out these.....monsters, the United States stands ready, willing & able to get involved and do the job quickly and effectively. The great new President of Mexico has made this a big issue, but the cartels have become so large and powerful that you sometimes need an army to defeat an army!
