Washington, DC....Our Country has lost, stupidly, Trillions of Dollars with China over many years. They have stolen our Intellectual Property at a rate of Hundreds of Billions of Dollars a year, & they want to continue. I won’t let that happen! We don’t need China and, frankly, would be far better off without them.
Governor Newsom Visits Paradise Area Students & Teachers as They Head Back to School

Paridise, CA...Governor Gavin Newsom visited students in Paradise Ridge Elementary School as they begin their first full week of classes for the 2019-20 school year. The school is located where the former Paradise Intermediate campus was based, and combines two TK-6 schools, Paradise Elementary (which burned down in the Camp Fire) and Ponderosa Elementary (which was damaged in the Camp Fire). The visit comes nine months following the Camp Fire, which displaced families and students in the area, and six months after the Governor signed AB 72, which provided emergency funding to rebuild the community. The measure was the first bill Governor Newsom signed into law after being sworn into office.

Washington, DC...Today, Acting Secretary of Homeland Security Kevin K. McAleenan and Secretary of Health and Human Services Alex Azar announced a final rule that finalizes regulations implementing the relevant and substantive terms of the Flores Settlement Agreement (FSA). Importantly, the rule will allow for termination of the FSA, and allow DHS and HHS to respond to significant statutory and operational changes that have occurred since the FSA has been in place, including dramatic increases in the numbers of unaccompanied children and family units crossing into the United States.

Sacramento, CA...Citing decisions to build the state’s fiscal reserves and California’s economic growth, a major credit agency has upgraded the state’s credit rating. Fitch Ratings writes that California has improved its ability to weather an economic downturn. “The state eliminated the overhang of budgetary borrowing that had accumulated through two recessions and continues to set-aside funds in the budget stabilization account,” the agency wrote.

Washington, DC...Attorney General William P. Barr today announced he will appoint Dr. Kathleen Hawk Sawyer as the Director of the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) and Dr. Thomas R. Kane as the Deputy Director of the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP). Dr. Hawk Sawyer previously served as Director of BOP from 1992 – 2003.

Washington, CA...Today, Planned Parenthood Federation of America announced that the Trump administration, through an unethical and dangerous gag rule, has forced Planned Parenthood grantees out of Title X, the nation’s decades-old bipartisan program for affordable birth control and reproductive health care. Planned Parenthood health centers have been a part of the program since it was created nearly 50 years ago, and have been the largest provider, serving 40 percent of all patients who get care through the Title X program.

Sacramento, CA..Today, Governor Gavin Newsom signed AB 392 by Assemblymember Shirley Weber (D-San Diego). The bill enacts one of the strongest use-of-force laws in the country. AB 392 modernizes standards for use of deadly force by officers. Specifically, this bill updates the existing deadly force standards to provide that deadly force may only be used when necessary. AB 392 also requires officers to use other techniques to address threats instead of using deadly force when safe to do so, encouraging law enforcement to train on and use de-escalation techniques like verbal persuasion and other crisis intervention methods.
