Public Advisory on Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) & Currently No Cases in Calaveras County

San Andreas, CA...State and federal health authorities continue to monitor an outbreak of respiratory disease caused by a novel coronavirus (COVID-19) originating in Wuhan, China in December 2019. The health risk to the general public in Calaveras County and in California remains low. “While there are currently no cases of COVID-19 in Calaveras County, Calaveras Public Health is working closely with local health providers and state health authorities to monitor this outbreak,” said Dr. Dean Kelaita, Calaveras County Public Health Officer.

State-Contracted Census Workers are Walking Calaveras and Educating Residents

San Andreas, CA...Five people from Evangelista Community Relations, a state-contracted Census outreach organization, will be going door-to-door in the more densely populated areas of the county placing an emphasis on the importance of Census 2020 and educating residents on how to complete the Census. They will be canvassing Monday - Thursday from 12 noon to 6p.m. and began in Mokelumne Hill last week. They are currently canvassing in San Andreas with plans to be in Angels Camp next week.

Las Vegas, NV...(The Hill)..Sen. Bernie Sanders posted a decisive victory in the Nevada caucuses Saturday, cementing his status as the front-runner for the Democratic presidential nomination by turning out a diverse coalition of voters. The Associated Press called the race for Sanders by 8 p.m. ET. The Nevada win comes after Sanders narrowly defeated former South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg in New Hampshire. Sanders and Buttigieg effectively split the delegates haul from the Iowa caucuses earlier this month. Sanders will now move past Buttigieg and take his first delegates lead of the year on Saturday.

Paris, France...Sanofi Pasteur, the vaccines global business unit of Sanofi, will leverage previous development work for a SARS vaccine which may unlock a fast path forward for developing a COVID-19 vaccine. Sanofi will collaborate with the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA), part of the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response, expanding the company’s long-standing partnership with BARDA.
