Forest Service Temporarily Closes All National Forests in California

Vallejo, CA...Due to unprecedented and historic fire conditions throughout the state, the USDA Forest Service Pacific Southwest Region is announcing a temporary closure of an additional ten National Forests, meaning all eighteen National Forests in California are now closed. The closure of the additional ten forests will be effective at 5:00 pm today. These additional forests include the Eldorado National Forest, Klamath National Forest, Lassen National Forest, Mendocino National Forest, Modoc National Forest, Six Rivers National Forest, Plumas National Forest, Shasta-Trinity National Forest, Tahoe National Forest, and Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit. This decision will be re-evaluated daily as conditions change.
CCWD Cancels Reach 1 Water Pipeline Outreach Meeting Today

San Andreas, CA...Cancellation of the Highway 4 Reach 1 Water Pipeline Replacement Project and Public Outreach Meeting Today. Due to the widespread power outage in Calaveras County, CCWD is cancelling the virtual public outreach meeting scheduled for 12:00 p.m. today. The next meeting is scheduled on Tuesday September 15th at 5:30 p.m. As a reminder, please conserve water during all power outages.
Emergency Camping Prohibition on the Eldorado National Forest

Placerville, CA...In addition to the emergency closures and the fire ban announced for California national forests earlier today, the Eldorado National Forest is one of 5 forests Northern California included in Regional Order No. 20-09 which was issued this evening, and prohibits all camping except in wilderness areas and within 500 feet of the Pacific Crest Trail. This order is effective beginning Tuesday, September 8, 2020, for the Eldorado National Forest, Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit, Lassen National Forest, Plumas National Forest, and Tahoe National Forest.

Governor Newsom Signs Emergency Proclamation to Allow Additional Energy Generation Amid Heat Wave

Sacramento, CA...Governor Gavin Newsom signed an emergency proclamation to free up additional energy capacity amid extreme temperatures across California. The proclamation permits power plants to generate more power by suspending certain permitting requirements, helping to alleviate the heat-induced demands on the state’s energy grid. Facilities are required to report any violations of these suspended permitting requirements to relevant local and state regulatory bodies. The proclamation also contains provisions related to the use of generators and auxiliary ship engines.

Vallejo, CA...Most of California remains under the threat of unprecedented and dangerous fire conditions with a combination of extreme heat, significant wind events, dry conditions, and firefighting resources that are stretched to the limit. Due to these conditions, the USDA Forest Service Pacific Southwest Region is announcing the following temporary closures and fire restrictions to provide for public safety and reduce the potential for human caused fire starts. They will go into effect at 5:00 pm Pacific Standard Time on Monday, September 7, 2020, and will be re-evaluated daily as conditions change.
Calaveras County To Open Cooling Center in San Andreas Starting Saturday Through Tuesday

Sacramento, CA...California State Parks advises Californians to plan ahead this Labor Day weekend since 46 units remain fully closed due to COVID-19 and wildfires. The department is also closing all state beaches in Monterey County and implementing full or partial vehicle access closures in Santa Barbara and Santa Cruz counties. Being prepared, abiding by the closures and following guidelines -- such as wearing face coverings, practicing physical distancing and avoiding gatherings with people outside the immediate household -- can help further slow the spread of COVID-19.
