Sacramento, CA...Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today issued an emergency proclamation for Madera, Mariposa and Tulare counties due to the effects of the Railroad, Pier, Mission and Peak fires, which have burned thousands of acres, threatened homes and critical infrastructure and caused the evacuation of residents.
As President, my highest duty is to defend the American people and the Constitution of the United States of America. At the same time, I do not favor punishing children, most of whom are now adults, for the actions of their parents. But we must also recognize that we are nation of opportunity because we are a nation of laws. The legislative branch, not the executive branch, writes these laws – this is the bedrock of our Constitutional system, which I took a solemn oath to preserve, protect, and defend.

Pyongyang, North Korea....Now that North Korea has successfully tested a Hydrogen Bomb is it time to draw a meaningful "Red Line" around the entire country? With shooting a missile over Japan last week and with this week's H-Bomb test the window for the international community to act short of military options may be closing. Since they have shown they have no interest in being part of a peaceful community of nations how about how about this as a framework for a UN Resolution?

We made clear that we have the ability to defend ourselves and our allies – South Korea and Japan – from any attack. And our commitments among the allies are ironclad.

San Francisco, CA...The United States has fully implemented the decision by the Government of the Russian Federation to reduce the size of our mission in Russia. We believe this action was unwarranted and detrimental to the overall relationship between our countries. In the spirit of parity invoked by the Russians, we are requiring the Russian Government to close its Consulate General in San Francisco, a chancery annex in Washington, D.C., and a consular annex in New York City. These closures will need to be accomplished by September 2.

Some Wells in Amador County May be a Bit Radioactive

Jackson, CA - California’s groundwater may contain naturally occurring radioactivity. Radioactive minerals occur irregularly in California’s bedrock, and when dissolved in water, radionuclides are colorless, odorless, and tasteless. Unlike community water systems, private wells in California are not routinely regulated or monitored for contaminants like radionuclides. As a result, well owners are responsible for ensuring their drinking water is safe. In some well water, the concentrations of radionuclides exceed public drinking water standards, called maximum contaminant levels (MCLs).

Sacramento, CA...Senator Ted Gaines (R-El Dorado) today expressed disappointment in the Joint Legislative Audit Committee’s (JLAC) denial of his request for an audit of the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (Cal Fire), specifically the monies collected from the fire tax. Senator Gaines was able to generate strong, bi-partisan support for the audit, however, it was not enough to move the request forward.
