Caltrans Removing Potentially Unsafe Trees From Roadside

Sacramento, CA...Caltrans is identifying and marking dead and dying trees that could impact the safety of the traveling public along state highways. The effort is part of an on-going need to address over 102 million dead trees that have died due to drought and bark beetle infestation since 2010.

Washington, DC...The following is a statement released Aug. 21 by Secretary of the Navy Richard V. Spencer on USS John S. McCain, which was involved in a collision with the merchant vessel Alnic MC while underway east of the Straits of Malacca and Singapore on Aug. 21. Our thoughts and prayers are with our shipmates onboard USS John S. McCain. The Navy family comes together during times of crisis and I want to thank those who are providing around-the-clock assistance to the affected Sailors and families.
August 21, 2017 Damage to the portside is visible as the guided-missile destroyer USS John S. McCain (DDG 56) steers towards Changi Naval Base, Republic of Singapore, following a collision with the merchant vessel Alnic MC while underway east of the Straits of Malacca and Singapore. Significant damage to the hull resulted in flooding to nearby compartments, including crew berthing, machinery, and communications rooms. Damage control efforts by the crew halted further flooding. California Transportation Commission Authorizes Nearly $690 Million to Accelerate Additional Transportation Projects

Sacramento, CA...Caltrans today announced that 32 major “fix-it-first” transportation projects can be accelerated a year earlier than planned thanks to anticipated funding from Senate Bill 1 (SB 1), the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017. The advancement is possible due to nearly $690 million in funding authorized today by the California Transportation Commission (CTC).

Barcelona, ES....A day of terror in Spain with 13 killed and 80 injured when a terrorist driver plowed his rented van into people along a 1/3 mile section of street. Hours later just over an hour's drive to the south law enforcement prevented another van attack but ended up in a gunfight with a cell of terrorists. in that skirmish 5 were shot and one police officer was injured
