California E-coli Cases: Local Prevention Measures From Amador Public Health

Posted by: thepinetree on 07/09/2019 11:59 AM
Sutter Creek, CA – Recent confirmed cases of illness underscore the importance of practicing prevention measures when interacting with animals at county and state fairs. Seven cases of Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli developed in children after visiting the San Diego California county fair livestock barns. Two children were hospitalized and one has died. “The death of a child is always devastating,” comments Dr. Rita Kerr, Amador County Health Officer. “Prevention measures are important to highlight. Washing hands, keeping human food away from animal areas, and watching children closely are all steps everyone can take to remain healthy at our fair. Even healthy appearing animals can transmit germs.”

Posted by: thepinetree on 07/09/2019 12:14 PM
Sonora, CA...The Stanislaus National Forest provides the following information about abandoned campfires and trash left behind on forest. Throughout the 4th of July holiday week, there was 42 abandoned campfires that were found and extinguished by fire and recreation staff. These abandoned campfires, if left unfound, could easily become an out of control wildfire. It is a requirement for all forest visitors in California, to have a valid California Campfire Permit. When you obtain this permit, you receive the expectations as a forest visitor on how to properly build, maintain and extinguish your campfires. The current fine for a campfire violation on the Stanislaus National Forest is $380. We want everyone to have the opportunity to enjoy our forest public lands. It only takes one abandoned campfire to become the next major wildfire in California.

President Trump Before Marine One Departure

Posted by: thepinetree on 07/05/2019 07:55 PM
Washington, DC...That’s a great crowd of people. We had a phenomenal crowd last night, and it was a fantastic evening for our country. You’re going to have a lot of people being recruited, I think, based on that. We’re going to have a lot of — a lot of people joining our military. And we really needed that. Our job numbers are so good that the military has a hard time getting people. And I think, really, that you’re going to see a big spike. I’ve already heard it — a lot of people calling in. No place like our military. I think we showed that last night.

6.4 Temblor Had So-Cal & Southern Nevada Shaking This Morning

Posted by: thepinetree on 07/04/2019 03:17 PM
Ridgecrest, CA...The July 4th, 2019 Mw 6.4 earthquake in eastern California, southwest of Searles Valley, occurred as the result of shallow strike slip faulting in the crust of the North America plate. Focal mechanism solutions for the earthquake indicate rupture occurred on a steeply dipping fault as the result of either right lateral slip on a plane striking NW-SE, or as left lateral slip on a plane striking SW-NE. The earthquake was located approximately 150 km northeast of San Andreas Fault - the major plate boundary in the region. At this latitude, the Pacific plate is moving to the northwest with respect to the North America plate at a rate of approximately 48 mm/yr. The location of the earthquake falls within the Eastern California shear zone, a region of distributed faulting associated with motion across the Pacific:North America plate boundary, and an area of high seismic hazard. More detailed studies will be required to precisely identify the causative fault associated with this event.
