US Sanctions Iran’s Central Bank and National Development Fund in Response to Attack on Saudi Oil Infrastructure

Washington, DC...Today, the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) took action against the Central Bank of Iran (CBI), the National Development Fund of Iran (NDF), and Etemad Tejarate Pars Co. under its counterterrorism authority, Executive Order (E.O.) 13224. Iran’s Central Bank has provided billions of dollars to the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), its Qods Force (IRGC-QF) and its terrorist proxy, Hizballah. Iran’s NDF, which is Iran’s sovereign wealth fund and whose board of trustees include Iran’s president, oil minister, and the governor of the Central Bank, has been a major source of foreign currency and funding for the IRGC-QF and Iran’s Ministry of Defense and Armed Forces Logistics (MODAFL). Etemad Tejarate Pars, also designated today, is an Iran-based company that is used to conceal financial transfers for MODAFL’s military purchases, including funds originating from the NDF.

Governor Gavin Newsom Signs Executive Order to Confront Youth Vaping Epidemic

Sacramento, CA...Governor Gavin Newsom signed an executive order to confront the growing youth epidemic and health risks linked to vaping. The executive order directs the Department of Public Health (CDPH) to launch a $20 million statewide digital and social media public awareness campaign to educate youth, young adults and parents about the health risks of vaping nicotine and cannabis products. CDPH is also tasked with developing recommendations to reduce smoking among young adults and teens by establishing warning signs with health risks where vaping products are sold and on product advertisements.

Sacramento, CA...Today Governor Gavin Newsom signed into law legislation authored by California State Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez (D-San Diego) to restore employment status for millions of workers who have been misclassified as contractors. Assembly Bill 5 provides clarity for businesses, workers and taxpayers in the wake of the Dynamex ruling by the California Supreme Court in 2018.

Sacramento, CA...Governor Gavin Newsom released the statement below after reports that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency tomorrow will announce plans to revoke aspects of a Clean Air Act waiver that has been used for years by California to set its own emissions standards. The Town Hall will be held at San Andreas Town Hall, 24 Church Hill Road, San Andreas, CA. The Insurance Commissioner will present about the current state of getting and maintaining homeowner’s insurance in the Wildland Urban Interface (WUI). This informational discussion will provide statewide trend data, consumer protection laws update and risk reduction through prevention and mitigation. The public is invited to attend and share personal experiences with insurance nonrenewal and rate increases with the Commissioner and his staff. CCWD Reach One Pipeline Replacement Construction Will Resume in Spring

San Andreas, CA....On Wednesday September 11, 2019, Mozingo Construction, Inc., informed the Calaveras County Water District (CCWD) that it was stopping work on the Reach 1 Pipeline Replacement Project for the remainder of this construction season. Mozingo started demobilizing from the project that same day and has reallocated resources away from the Reach 1 Project in order to meet other obligations. Construction was previously scheduled to continue until October 1 of this year and resume in spring 2020. Mozingo has assured CCWD that the $7.5 million project will be completed on-time and within budget. The project is scheduled to be finished by June 30, 2020.

CDC Maps Show 9 States With Adult Obesity Higher than 35%

Atlanta, GA...In 2018, nine states reported an adult obesity prevalence at or above 35 percent: Alabama, Arkansas, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, North Dakota, and West Virginia. This comes from the new obesity prevalence maps released today by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The maps break down adult obesity prevalence by race, ethnicity, and location based on self-reported height and weight data.

Governor Newsom Grants Executive Clemency to 21 on September 13th

Sacramento, CA...Governor Gavin Newsom today announced that he has granted 21 commutations.  The California Constitution gives the Governor the authority to grant clemency, including in the form of a commutation. A clemency grant recognizes a person’s efforts in self-development, rehabilitation and prospects for successful community reentry. A clemency grant does not forgive or minimize the harm caused by the crime. People currently serving sentences in California prisons may apply for a commutation.
