Local COVID-19 Testing Opening Soon at Frogtown for Calaveras & Tuolumne Counties

Angels Camp, CA...As part of efforts to expand COVID-19 testing throughout the State, a testing site serving people from Tuolumne and Calaveras Counties to be open effective Friday, May 29. The testing site will open at the Calaveras County Fairgrounds located just outside historic downtown Angels Camp. OptumServe, a health services partner with the State of California, will coordinate services with the public health officials from both counties. “We are very pleased to have this expanded access to testing available to our residents. Increased access to testing will allow our community to identify cases quickly and stay in containment.” said Dr. Liza Ortiz, Interim Tuolumne County Health Officer.

Kennedy Space Center, FL...NASA is inviting the public to help celebrate a historic milestone in human spaceflight as it prepares for #LaunchAmerica – the first flight into orbit of American astronauts on American rockets from American soil since the end of the space shuttle era in 2011. Known as NASA’s SpaceX Demo-2 test flight, which is targeted for lift off at 4:33 p.m. EDT Wednesday, May 27, this mission will send NASA astronauts Robert Behnken and Douglas Hurley to the International Space Station as part of the agency’s Commercial Crew Program. Members of the public can attend the launch virtually, receiving mission updates and opportunities normally received by on-site guests.

Sacramento, CA...Members of Governor Gavin Newsom’s Task Force on Business and Jobs Recovery sent a letter to congressional leaders asking them pass $1 trillion in direct relief for state and local governments – funding that is critical to reopening our economies. “State, local and tribal governments are critical to our recovery. In the short-term, they must be able to scale-up necessary programs, like contact tracing and testing,” the signers said. “Given budget shortfalls, they are also soon facing impossible decisions – like whether to fund additional safety measures related to COVID-19 that will help businesses reopen more quickly or prevent layoffs of teachers, police officers, firefighters and other first responders.”

Tonopah, NV...If you like us felt the rocking and rolling just after 4am this morning here are the details from the USGS..."A magnitude 6.5 earthquake struck near Tonopah, Nevada, near the California-Nevada border and about 120 miles southeast of Carson City, early this morning on May 15, 2020, at 4:03 am local time (11:03:27 UTC). Seismic instruments indicate the earthquake originated at a depth of 1.7 miles (2.8 km). The quake occurred as the result of strike slip faulting in the shallow crust of the North America plate.
Forest Service Extends Closure of Most Developed Recreation Sites on Stanislaus National Forest Through May 31

Sonora, CA... The Stanislaus National Forest announced that most developed recreation sites will remain closed through May 31, 2020. The regional closure order 20-03 closed all designated recreation sites and campgrounds through May 15. Local forest order STF-16-2020-07 will be in effect beginning May 16, 2020 and is scheduled to expire May 31. A copy of the forest order will be posted on the Stanislaus National Forest web page as soon as it is available.
