Sacramento, CA...Over 4,600 firefighters continue to battle 22 wildfires in California. Yesterday, firefighters responded to 37 new wildfires, all of which were quickly contained. As favorable weather remains, firefighters are gaining the upper hand on these fires with containment numbers increasing.

Calaveras Public Health Reports 7 New Cases of COVID-19 in Calaveras County

San Andreas, CA...On Friday, October 30, 2020, Calaveras Public Health confirmed seven additional cases of COVID-19 in Calaveras County. The cases include one female between 0-17 years of age, one female and two males between 18-49 years of age, one female between 50-64 years of age, and one female and one male over the age of 65. Districts 1 and 2 each have three cases. One case is being reported in District 4. There are no new cases reported in the remaining Districts.

Sacramento, CA...California State Parks is honoring the service of veterans, as well as active and reserve personnel, by offering free admission to 133 state parks on Veterans Day, Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2020. “We understand this has been a challenging year with the ongoing pandemic and the recent wildfires,” said California State Parks Director Armando Quintero. “California State Parks is proud to be able to honor our military community by thanking them for their service and sacrifices to our country. Governor Newsom Cuts Ribbon on California’s New Laboratory, Which Will Increase State’s COVID-19 Testing Capacity and Reduce Turnaround Times

Valencia, CA...Governor Gavin Newsom today announced the opening of an innovative new laboratory in California that will increase the state’s COVID-19 testing capacity, reduce test turnaround time and create hundreds of new California jobs. The $25 million lab, built in conjunction with major diagnostics company PerkinElmer, will begin processing tests starting in November and work toward full capacity of 150,000 tests by March 2021. The lab was constructed ahead of schedule.
Gross Domestic Product, Soars 33% in Third Quarter 2020 Advance Estimate

Suitland, MD...Real gross domestic product (GDP) increased at an annual rate of 33.1 percent in the third quarter of 2020 (table 1), according to the "advance" estimate released by the Bureau of Economic Analysis. In the second quarter, real GDP decreased 31.4 percent. The increase in third quarter GDP reflected continued efforts to reopen businesses and resume activities that were postponed or restricted due to COVID-19. The full economic effects of the COVID-19 pandemic cannot be quantified in the GDP estimate for the third quarter of 2020 because the impacts are generally embedded in source data and cannot be separately identified. Trump Administration Awards $40 million for Sacramento River Salmon Habitat Improvements

Sacramento, CA...The Bureau of Reclamation announces the selection of four funding award recipients to implement $40 million in salmon habitat improvement projects along the Sacramento River. The restoration projects will enhance and improve spawning and rearing habitat for salmon at approximately 25 different locations across 132 river miles. Each award is for approximately $10 million over a five-year period. Elements of the salmon habitat improvement projects include gravel and coarse sediment additions, side channel and floodplain restoration and enhancement, woody material and boulder additions and riparian plantings. Project locations are along the Sacramento River from Keswick Dam down to the Feather River confluence.
Western States Join California’s Scientific Safety Review Workgroup to Ensure Safety of COVID-19 Vaccine

Sacramento, CA...Washington, Oregon and Nevada have joined California’s COVID-19 Scientific Safety Review Workgroup, which will independently review the safety and efficacy of any vaccine approved by the FDA for distribution. Last week, Governor Gavin Newsom announced the panel made up of nationally acclaimed scientists with expertise in immunization and public health.
