Posted by: Kim_Hamilton on 08/23/2008 09:36 PM
Avery, CA....There was a shooting at approximately 6pm this evening in the Avery Sheep Ranch area. One man was shot with a small caliber handgun and was medi-flighted to a hospital in the valley, but is expected to recover. Law enforcement personnel have been conducting a search for the assailant. Apparently the two individuals knew one another. We are awaiting a return call from the Sheriff's office for additional information. We also have unconfirmed reports, that the assailant left the scene of the incident on a quad and was heading out towards the Sheep Ranch area. More to come as we have more concrete details. 1/3 of the Homes in Calaveras County May Lack Final Inspections States Community Development Department

Posted by: thepinetree on 06/17/2008 12:16 PM
San Andreas, CA...Final Inspections in addition to the Budget, Flood Plain and other issues were in front of the Calaveras County Board of Supervisors today. At nearly the close of the meeting Supervisor Tryon wanted to see the Board hold a study session at a future date on the CDA's current reexamination of property records to see whether homes and other building projects have in fact had final inspections. Stephanie Moreno came in to address the Board on this topic. She mentioned that her department is charging nominal, typically under $200 fees for the final inspections and that the inspections are held to the standards of the codes which were in effect when the projects were built. A larger bombshell that came out during this discussion, may possibly be the number of homes and projects her department feels may be in need of final inspections. The CDA staff estimates that up to "1/3 of the homes in Calaveas County may need final inspection"...

In addition to the normal items that attracted attention one seemingly minor item took up a large portion of the discussion time. The county was looking at trying to save about $17,000 in general fund money by eliminating 1/2 of a position. From the discussions it seems that this may be $17,000 that needs to be cut elsewhere. The Meeting video and summary are enclosed.....

"95 Masks", A look into A Child's Imagination....We Have Photos of All "95 Masks!"

Posted by: thepinetree on 06/02/2008 01:51 PM
Murphys, CA....."95 Masks", an annual project of Teacher Mary Devany's art class at Avery Middle School. This class project is a wonderful way for the students to express themselves and possibly show others a glimpse of their inner identities. The Recpeption and showing of the masks started in Friday evening at the Art Gallery in Murphys and went through Sunday. Each year, the 6th graders from Avery Middle School get to work with Sharon Strong, owner of the Art Gallery in Murphys, making these beautiful masks expressing themselves and also writing a poem to go with each. They are then displayed at Murphys Art Gallery for three days for the community to enjoy. We stopped by on Friday for the Reception then again over the weekend to get a better look at each mask and what talent these kids have....
