"Muddy Fries" Is This Week's Blue Ribbon Recipe: by Calaveras County Fair & Jumping Frog Jubilee |

"Muddy" Fries
1 Cheap roast2 C Shredded Cheddar Cheese1 Bag of Frozen Sweet Potato French Fries (Or a few fresh sweet potatoes)1 Bottle of Coke or Diet CokeJalapenosVanilla, Chili Powder, Cayenne Pepper, Garlic Salt & Black pepper. Start by pounding the roast. Pound it with whatever you can find, your hand a rolling pin, a skillet, whatever you can find quick. Then sear the outsides of the roast. After you sear it slice it against the grain into 1/2 inch pieces. Trim off any fatty spots while you do this.....

Sacramento, CA....Senator Ted Gaines (R-Roseville) today hosted the 37th Annual Capitol Frog Jumping Contest at the State Capitol. Elected officials, legislative staffers and media participated to see who can make their frog jump the farthest. “It was an honor to sponsor the 37th Annual Capitol Frog Jump in my first year representing Calaveras County and the 1st Senate District,” said Gaines. “The event is such a staple to the Capitol community and a great way to get the word out about the Calaveras County Fair and Jumping Frog Jubilee taking place at the end of this month.”...

Frogtown, USA...The Calaveras County Wine Judging is one of the big events that lead up the 2011 Fair and Frog Jump that runs or hops from May 19th - 22nd this year. One of the central attractions is the Wine Pavilion run by the Calaveras Winegrape Alliance. The Wine Pavilion will prominently feature all of the award winners and more from the wine completion. It has really been great to watch Calaveras County mature as a wine lovers destination for visitors from all over the world. The winners featured many local wineries and are enclosed...

Frogtown, USA...Are you ready for for the Fair??? Well we sure hope so. Our local Frog Jump and County Fair is when the whole world takes notice of Calaveras County every spring. This year the community and the Frogtown Staff and volunteers have gone all out to make this Fair the best yet. From Arena events, concerts, destruction derbys, beauty pageants and of course the International Frog Jump Finals the fair has something for everyone.

Calaveras County Fairgrounds (aka Frogtown), USA....This year's Calaveras County Fair and Jumping Frog Jubilee is nearly upon us. Friends of the Fair board members and the entire community came out for the annual "Whiskerino" for a night of food, music, fun, and...whiskers. Miss Calaveras contestants, joined with candidates for the Saddle Queen title, came out to greet the crowds, introduce themselves, and thank their sponsors for all the support. After dinner the whisker competition got underway......

A Little History on The Frog Jump! |

In 1865, Samuel l. Clemens (Mark Twain) penned “The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County”, a tall tale of the life and happenings of the gold rush town, Angels Camp. The narrator details a story he heard in a tavern. It is about a frog, Dan’l Webster, who could out jump any other frog, and a man, Jim Smiley, who was the “curiousest man about always betting on anything that turned up you ever see, if he could get anybody to bet on the other side; and if he couldn’t he’d change sides.” Jim Smiley had bet forty dollars.....

Wonderful Fruit Salad!
1 Can (11 oz.) mandarin oranges
1 teaspoon sugar
2 green apples - chopped
1 cup of green grapes
1/2 cup red grapes
3 kiwi fruit, peeled and chopped
1 can (20 oz) pineapple chunks, drained
1/2 cup vanilla yogurt
1 large firm banana.....
