Angels Camp, CA....A little bit of country and history took place on Saturday at the Calaveras County Fairgrounds in Angels Camp. Since cowboys are such an important part of the history and heritage of Calaveras County, the Calaveras County Chamber of Commerce celebrated the cowboy with a Barbecue Dinner and Dance. The National Day of the American Cowboy.....

Frogtown, CA...We stopped by the Sober Grad Night preparations at Frogtown on Friday as they were getting ready for the Class of 2008. They had the USS Bret Harte almost ready to sail. The hard working parents & volunteers had assembled an entire cruise ship for the kids to enjoy. They could make a stop at 9 ports in all. The purpose of Sober Grad Night is to keep the teenagers in a safe and chemical free environment, while giving them a fun graduation party at the same time. There have been no deaths or seniors injured in a vehicle accident on graduation night, since this has started....

Angels Camp, CA...Downtown Angels Camp was filled to the brim this morning! There were boy scouts, girl scouts, cub scouts, kids on horses, fire trucks, Smokey the Bear, Dancers and more for Annual Calaveras County & Jumping Frog Jubilee Kiddie Parade. Christian Locke and Mikayla Todd of Hannibal Missouri were also on hand as Tom Sawyer and Becky Thatcher. The new Jr. Miss Calaveras, Kaylee Sedler and her court rode atop a Altaville Melones Fire Truck. The new Miss Calaveras 2008, Amanda Warden and her court, made their first public appearance as they rode through town in an antique car The 2nd Day of Fair is a tradition amongst many locals in our area. They take their kids to the parade then head on over to the Jubilee for "Buckaroo Day", which is no admission charge to kids under 12. All Calaveras County schools are closed on Thursday and Friday during the week of fair to give the community a chance to enjoy what this lovely area has to offer! We have the video of the full event enclosed and we have photos with more to come Enjoy....

Angels Camp, CA....This Saturday Kaylee Sedler from Mark Twain Elementary was crowned Jr. Miss Calaveras 2008 during the Jr. Frog Jump at the Altaville Melones Fire Department in Angels Camp. The Junior Miss Calaveras competition was open to 8th grade girls in Calaveras county. Five girls ran for the queen title and were judged on the following components, beauty, personality and pleasantness by a panel of experienced judges.....

Angels Camp, CA....Laurie Giannini, Facility Marketing Director of Frogtown, and others took their Annual trek to the Arden Faire Mall on Thursday to talk about the upcoming Calaveras County Fair & Frog Jumping Jubilee. Laurie brought out "Geraldine" one of the famous Calaveras County Frogs to show how the frog jump works.....

Angels Camp, CA....The Calaveras Saddle Queen Competition is coming up in on May 14th, which is also Opening Day of the Calaveras County Fair & Frog Jumping Jubilee. The Competition is sponsored by Gold Electric of Murphys, Turners Wild West of Angels Camp, and Country Feed and More of San Andreas and is presented by Michele Lee and Shasta Rogers of the Calaveras Saddle Club. The competition takes place at the Frogtown arena. The coronation will be at approximately 6pm. Following are some resumes on the Saddle Queen Contestants......

Angels Camp, CA....Wednesday eve the newly refurbished Frogeteria at Frogtown was filled for the Annual Media Night as a start to the 80th Annual Calaveras County Fair and Frog Jumping Jubilee. Ray Malerbi, Laurie Giannini, their staff and boards threw quite a bash. The evening is an annual event where they honor their sponsors and community members. It is also the big night where the Saddle and Miss Calaveras contestants are introduced. The highlight of every media event is of course "Frog Kissing." One of the prices of that has to be paid to enter one of the pageants is the obligatory kissing of the frogs. Some of the girls seemed to revel in the amphibian smooching while others had to just try and get through it...

Angels Camp, CA....Last night's Media Night was hopping! Ray Malerbi and Laurie Giannini along with the Fair Board did an excellent job with their presentation and preview of this year's festivities. They put on a wonderful slide retrospective and also preview of this years events. Both the Miss Calaveras and Saddle Queen contestants introduced themselves as did the Junior Fair Board. In a previous post we enclosed the Frog Kissing Video. In this post we have the entire evening. It runs just over an hour and starts right as they started the video portion of the program. Enjoy...

Frogtown, CA...This years theme for the Calaveras County Fair is "Heard it through the Bovine." The Calaveras County Fair & Frog Jumping Jubilee will run from May 14 through May 18th. This annual family filled event will start off on May 14th with "Heritage Day" with specials on Hot Dogs, Root Beer and Carnival Rides from 4-7pm. The Saddle Queen Competition will be held at 1pm that day. The gates will officially open at 4pm......
