Meet Your Lovely 2011 Saddle Queen Contestants!

Frogtown, USA....Six lovely young contestants will be vying for the 2011 Calaveras Saddle Queen on May 19, 2011 at 3pm at the Frogtown Arena. The Calaveras Saddle Queen Competition has become one the Fair’s signature events. The Fair’s scholarship fund will be awarding $2,000 in scholarship funds to the top three competitors. Young women are judged on their interview skills as well their horsemanship abilities. These hard working students have an extensive preparation process in and out of the Arena. .....

Local 8th Grader Headed to State Science Fair.....Still A Little Short of His Goal

Calaveras County, CA...Update 4/28/11: Michael has received some very generous donations from our viewers! The family is so thankful! "I am so excited for him, what a wonderful opportunity he has before him and with his drive to do the best he can, hopefully he will place during the state competition. He is going to go back to the IGA in Copperopolis again tomorrow with his project to answer questions and share what he has discovered. Hopefully by the end of the day he will have reached his goal , he has a baseball game on Saturday morning" States Michael's Grandmother, Cindi Bent.....Local 8th grader, Michael Legge is headed to the State Science Fair! Michael won 1st place at the Calaveras County Science Fair in his division with his project "Mysterious Bacteria vs. Evil Tobacco." Michael is a student at Mark Twain Elementary and needs our help! Here is a letter from Michael: "Hello my name is Michael Legge and I am an 8th grade student at Mark Twain Elementary School. Mark Twain doesn't require students to do science fair projects but I went out and did one on my own. .....

Blue Ribbon Recipe Thursday by Calaveras County Fair & Jumping Frog Jubilee

Easy Pineapple Cake

Preheat oven to 350, lightly oil 13x9 pan

Beat together: 2 eggs and 2 c sugar

Add: 2 c flour, 2 tsp baking soda, 1-20oz can crushed pineapple (undrained), 1/4 c walnuts (optional)

Stir together well, pour into prepared pan and bake for 45 min.

It is delicious without frosting or you can make the following Cream cheese frosting and it is simply divine!.....

Frogtown, USA....“If not us, who” If not now, when”? President Ronald Reagan. I am reminded of this quote when I think of “Friends of the Calaveras County Fair”. In the fall of 2008 a group of Calaveras County residents decided to take action and form a foundation whose sole purpose was to enhance, support and create additional community involvement and participation while maintaining the amazing history the Fair enjoys. The Friends of the Calaveras County Fair, a non-profit organization was formed. .....

Frogtown, USA.....Here is this weeks Blue Ribbon Recipe "Lemon Sponge Pie" by Connie Field, of Janesville, Wisconsin. She won Second Place, Dairy Delight Contest, at the Walworth County Fair, in Elkhorn, Wisconsin in 2005.

Filling:
3 Tbls unsalted butter, room temperature
1 1/4C sugar
4 eggs, separated
3 Tbls flour
Pinch of salt
1 1/4C milk
2 Tbls grated lemon zest
1/3 C lemon juice
1 unbaked 9-inch pie shell....
