New Carnival Means New Rides at the Fair! |

Angels Camp, CA....More than two dozen spectacular carnival rides are expected to descend upon Frogtown May 13 through May 16 when a new carnival promoter arrives for the 81st annual Calaveras County Fair and Jumping Frog Jubilee. Perennial favorites – the Zipper, Gravitron, Tornado and Silver Streak – will be joined by a ride new to the fair: The Super Shot. If you like The Drop Tower Scream Zone at California’s Great America in Santa Clara then you’ll love The Super Shot. Paul Maurer Shows, of Huntington Beach, CA, was chosen by the fair’s board of directors based upon the company’s safety record, clear inspections from Cal-OSHA and the company’s willingness to offer special discounts to county residents. “I was impressed that every employee performs a daily check-off inspection of their ride before the gates are opened,” said Stephen Kautz, fair board president.....

Angels Camp, CA....The Youth Parade, sponsored by Soroptimist International of Calaveras County since 1947, is scheduled for Thursday, May 13 at 10:00 AM on Main Street in Historic Downtown Angels Camp. "Celebrating the Wit and Wisdom of Mark Twain" is this year's theme. All youth between the ages of infant to 18 years of age are invited to participate in the parade. Prizes will be awarded in various categories. ...

Angels Camp, CA.....Seven bright talented young women will be competing for the title of Miss Calaveras and a $1,000 scholarship. The Miss Calaveras Scholarship pageant is an eight week program that culminates in the stage competition at the Calaveras County Fair. The Program offers more than $2,700 in scholarship monies for contestants. In April the seven contestants will begin a rigorous rehearsal schedule. They will be schooled in interview skills, etiquette, public speaking and talent. The competition comprises of four areas of focus, personal interview, health and fitness, evening gown and talent. ANGELS CAMP – The decks of a 25-foot-long paddlewheel steamboat will explode with a national marionette show at this year’s Calaveras County Fair and Jumping Frog Jubilee. The Mitchell Marionettes will be featured in KidZone three times each day of the Fair, May 13 – 16, 2010. Frogtown, CA...The Friends of the Fair are at it again with a Wiskerino Dinner & Dance that will be held on May 1st at Frogtown. There are lots of different categories including...Full Beard, Mustache, Most Effort for Least Results, Couples, Family, Man and Woman. So let it all go and have some fun on May 1st....

San Andreas, CA...We had the pleasure of seeing CHP's Rapid Apprehension of Impaired Drivers or RAID program in action. We stopped by the CHP Office in San Andreas on Saturday evening to see them in action. The local CHP office brought additional Officers, Motorcycle Units, Screening Equipment and even their own in house Phlebotomist from their air medical crew for blood draws. CHP Officer Jaimie Castillo and even some visiting officers from other areas were gracious enough to fill in some of the details for us....

Frogtown, CA...It was a reunion of local high society at Frogtown on Saturday eve. It was also a labor of love for a past Miss Calaveras Kathy Mazzaferro and was the beginning of what will no doubt become one of the premier "Fair Season" events in Calaveras County. The 1st Annual Coronation Ball brought together past fair royalty and showcased the current contestants in the Miss Calaveras and Saddle Queen Competitions. Kathy Mazzaferro has been leading the charge over the last several years to keep tabs on the lives and whereabouts of our local past royalty...

Frogtown, CA...The 2009 Media Night was held at Frogtown last night. There were Saddle Queens and Beauty Queens, Frogs, Speeches, Awards and More.The Fair's Marketing Director Laurie Giannini moderated the festivities and went over the highlights of this year's fair with a video presentation to kick things off. This years theme is "Love Me Timber" and the fair will pay tribute to the local timber industry throughout the run. The community support behind the fair this year has been huge Many individuals and organizations have stepped up to the make this year to be what many feel will be the best Fair and Frog Jump Jubilee yet...

Angels Camp, CA...The 2009 Saddle Queen contestants polished their public speaking at the latest Chamber Mixer. The contestants did a great job speaking for the good sized crowd at Camps. Saddle Queen program organizer Michelle Lee was on hand to introduce the program and the Reigning Saddle Queen Kayte Lowry led off the speeches with the field of Chelsea Flores, Catheryn Gulizia, Katelyn McConahy, Holly Moore, and Kathryn Stephens each taking their turn at the mike. The 2009 Saddle Queen Competition gets the arena events started this year at 1pm on Thursday. Make sure you attend and watch these girls in action...
