Murphys, CA...Murphys Creek Theater is hard at work for the opening of Merchant of Venice at one of the best venues around. The Cornelia B. Stevenot Memorial Amphitheatre will also open for it's 2009 run with this play. We had the pleasure to stop by earlier this week as the cast was going through their paces. The took a bit of a break to introduce themselves as Director Graham Green talks with them about the play...

Murphys, CA...The scenic and idyllic Murphys Community Park was packed and filled to overflowing on Friday night for the delayed start of "First Fridays" the monthly music series sponsored by the Murphys community club. Last month some spring showers provided by Mother Nature delayed the start by a few weeks. On nights like Friday night with the creek gurgling on a warm summer night Murphys was working it's magic....

Murphys, CA....Everyone is invited to the 60th anniversary Murphys Homecoming to be held Saturday, July 18, in the cool confines of the town’s historic and much enjoyed park. There is no admission charge. Activities will kick off at 10:30 a.m. with a Promenade to the Park that will wind its way down Main Street starting at The Arbors, making a turn by the Murphys Hotel, and ending at the celebration....

Traditional Venezuelan music fused with jazz is what’s in store for the Music in the Parks scheduled for Wednesday, July 8. Starting at 6:30 pm, in Murphys Community Park, the Calaveras Arts Council is presenting The VNote Ensemble, formerly known as The Snake Trio. Bring your lowback chairs to this free concert. The Murphys Community Club will have its snack shack open for those who forget their picnics and refreshments.....

Douglas Flat, CA....Last weekend many of the local wineries had special Passport weekend themed celebrations. At Chatom Vineyards, it was all about the cure for the current financial crises we face. They were serving Madoff Meatballs, Lehman Squares, Ponzi Pudding and many more financial goodies...

Murphys, CA...Last weekend's Passport event for our local wine industry was a sellout. Calaveras Winegrape Alliance Executive Director Anna Davies said that all 500 of the Passports were sold. The festivities started off at Murphys Community Park on Friday night and then many of the Wineries had special events planned throughout the weekend. When we spoke with Anna one of the things she mentioned that over 400 of the passport holders stayed for the entire weekend. The economic benefit from this is significant in that...
