Murphys, CA...Horse and Barrel the local horseback riding and touring company led one of their largest expeditions a couple of weeks ago when they led a group from Oakdale on nice tour of Murphys, wine tasting and more topped by a nice lunch at Murphy Hotel. When we spotted 30 plus horses tied behind the hotel it looked like a scene from the 1800's. Horse and Barrel has also made big changes this year and are now based at Twisted Oak Winery and use their spacious Vineyard and Trails for Twisted Rides.

|
Vallecito, CA...Maria Muldaur is best known world wide for her '74 mega-hit "Midnight at the Oasis," which received several Grammy nominations, and enshrined her forever in the hearts of Baby Boomers everywhere; but despite her considerable Pop Music success, her 39-year career could best be described as a long and adventurous odyssey through the various forms of American Roots Music. During the folk revival of the early '60s, she began exploring and singing early Blues, Bluegrass, Appalachian "Old Timey" music, beginning her recording career in 1963 with the Even Dozen Jug Band and shortly thereafter, joining the very popular Jim Kweskin Jug Band, touring, and recording with them throughout the '60s...

Penn Fire Update...40% Contained. Full Containment Expected July 28th. 134 Official Acres |
Posted by: John_Hamilton on 07/26/2012 08:59 PM
|
Murphys, CA...The Penn Fire behaved quite well and as the case in some of these fires when the put water on them they sometimes shrink a bit. After the repeated soakings from the air and ground the acreage has dropped from 180 -200 down to 134 acres. The "Shrinkage" is actually just from after they finish accurate measurements of the fire. When this one was under full boil it certainly behaved like 180 - 200. Still assigned to the fire are 424 personnel, 35 engines, 19 fire crews, 5 bulldozers, 4 air tankers, 4 helicopters, 5 water tenders and more. Great work firefighters!! Your community thanks you and the full incident update is enclosed.... |

Fishing Report Highway 4 Corridor July 23, 2012 ~By Bill Reynolds |
Posted by: John_Hamilton on 07/23/2012 09:57 PM

Arnold, CA...The fishing on the highway 4 corridor has been excellent. Make sure to be fire safe at this time of year as it is very dry out in the woods. You must obtain a fire permit for your campsite if you are not using an improved campsite. Make sure you purchase your license before heading up here as we are the only store to sell licenses from Arnold up as we do experience problems with our machine occasionally....
