Murphys Businesses Honor the Dead in the Land of the Skulls on Dia de los Muertos.

Murphys, CA...Murphys merchants and tasting rooms will be celebrating the Fourth Annual Day of the Dead, or Dia de los Muertos, on November 2nd from 11-6 pm.  Participating businesses will be offering authentic cultural art, food, sugar skulls, face painting and live music, as well as displaying altars celebrating the lives of those who have passed on but are with us in heart and spirit on the Day of the Dead.  We'll once again include a Catrina and Catrin Dress Contest at 4:30 Saturday afternoon at the Black Bart Theater, and a Candle Light Procession to St. Patrick’s Cemetery. Those wishing to participate in the procession should meet at the Spice Tin near the corner of Main Street and Algiers at 5:30 pm.  The procession will leave promptly at 5:45 pm.   Make sure to bring your flashlight and warm clothing and remember that you will be in a catholic cemetery so please be respectful of the grounds and other folks who may be there.  Hot chocolate and pan de muertos will be available for purchase after the ceremony. Programs may be picked up on the day of the event at Murphys Visitors Center, Tanner Tasting Room, Marisolio Tasting Bar and the Bodega del Sur Tasting Room.

Snow On The Way Till Wednesday...Bear Valley Getting Ready for 2013/2014 Season

Bear Valley, CA....There is white in the forecast until Wednesday. Bear Valley hopes to open by Thanksgiving if mother nature cooperates. They will be ready on the operations side from Winterfest onward. Today Snow showers. High near 32. South southwest wind 14 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. Total daytime snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible. Tonight Snow showers likely. Cloudy, with a low around 21. South southwest wind 13 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 23 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of around an inch possible. Tuesday A 30 percent chance of snow showers, mainly before 11am. Partly sunny, with a high near 39. South wind around 7 mph. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible....

Trick or Treating and Pet Costume Contest at Animal Services

San Andreas, CA...On October 31st we will be having Halloween fun at Animal Services by offering trick or treating during our business hours (8am-4:30pm) for kids and pets who are in costume. For pets in costume we will be having our first annual costume contest and I will be taking pictures of the critters in costume who wish to enter the contest. I will post the pictures on our Facebook page where the public can vote by ‘liking’ the picture, the voting will go until the end of the day on 11/3 and the winner will be announced on 11/4 in the morning. Grand prize will be 2 tickets to the Movie Theater in Angels Camp, 2nd place will be a certificate for either a cat or dog microchip, and 3rd place will be a $15 gift certificate for Spence Feed in Angels Camp...
