Soldier Stature By Artist John Kobald Unveiled At Memorial Day Ceremony |

Murphys, CA...It was a fortuitous meeting when members of the Kautz family met artist and sculptor John Kobald when traveling. He became the sculptor to deliver the centerpiece of an incredible gift to the Ebbetts Pass Veterans District's Veterans Memorial and the community. The artist is pictured below the full sized, larger than life, bronze stature unveiled this morning. The Kautz Family underwrote the costs of the expansion improvements at veteran's memorial. We will have full video and many photos from today's event posted later today...

Another Showing Of Murphys Creek Theatre's Twelfth Night By William Shakespeare at Brice Station Vineyards |

Murphys, Ca...Director Tara Kayton is setting this summer’s production of Twelfth Night, one of Shakespeare’s finest comedies, in the1930 American Dust Bowl. Using a vagabond troupe of actors, steamer trunks, and an old truck the group will create a world in and around the audience that will be both interactive and intimate. The group will engage Shakespeare’s tale of love and loss with live instruments, witty banter, and laughter. Audiences are welcome to carouse with food and wine on Brice Station Vineyards beautiful grassy hill surrounded by breathtaking views and evening stars. For those familiar with these summer productions, this is a change of venue for the Murphys Creek Theatre...

First Pertussis (Whooping Cough) Cases in Calaveras |

| Calaveras County, Ca...As of March 2014 there were 495 confirmed pertussis cases in California. Calaveras Public Health Services has received notification of two confirmed pertussis cases in the County. Both cases are school-aged residents. Pertussis is a disease of the lungs and throat caused by bacteria. Pertussis starts like a cold with a runny nose and cough that gets worse. The cough usually lasts more than two weeks. The cough occurs in spasms that may cause a “whoop” sound when the person tries to catch their breath. It can be so severe that a person will vomit afterwards. Pertussis can be prevented with a vaccine... |

| Angels Camp and Murphys, Ca...Registrations are now being accepted for a series of Youth Tennis Clinics to be held in Calaveras County beginning June 9. Organized by Angella Woods, a member of the United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) since 2003, the program is open to all junior players, ages 6 to 17, with a special emphasis on current and aspiring high school athletes. The sessions will be held at Bret Harte High School, Angels Camp, and the Wintercreek Tennis Facility in Murphys. The clinics will be divided into five sessions, each scheduled for Monday through Friday, 8:30 – 10:30 a.m... |

Murphys, Ca...Soroptimist International of Calaveras County held its fourth annual “Take It To Heart” Chili Cook Off at the Murphys Historic Hotel on May 3. Best Chili winners were Witness Protection, who also took third place for their theme. The Best Theme was created by the Chili Queens. Net proceeds from the event help fund SI of Calaveras County’s “Take Women To Heart” program, in partnership with Mark Twain Medical Center, providing free lipid tests to Calaveras County women...
