Murphys, CA ... Calaveras County’s fresh new springtime fundraiser is taking shape as a festive and memorable treat for party-lovers and dancers of all types! The Spring Swing, a brand new event presented by the Calaveras Mentoring Foundation to raise funds for the Calaveras Youth Mentoring Program, is coming right up on Saturday, April 5, 2014 at Ironstone Vineyards in Murphys. The Spring and Swing themes will sparkle throughout the event. Ironstone’s ballroom will be in full bloom with gorgeous flowers, foliage and cheerful seasonal decorations. Partygoers will enjoy a delicious multi-station 1950’s-themed buffet dinner with stops like Bobby’s Burger Barn, Bud’s Spuds, and Delilah’s Diner. Rod Harris and the Columbia Kicks will deliver their distinctive style of Big Band dance music, and accomplished local and professional swing dancers will be ‘for hire’ to teach or just dance with guests who want to look really good on the dance floor. Supervisor Merita Callaway Officially Launches Campaign With Event at Milliaire Tasting Room

Posted by: thepinetree on 03/23/2014 10:54 PM
Murphys, CA...Recently Calaveras County Supervisor Merita Callaway launched her campaign for re-election with a well attended and festive event. The first of two planned open-to-everyone events, kicked off her campaign for re-election in District 3. The event in the Murphys area allowed her to network with voters in the Murphys/Douglas Flat area. The District has been enlarged via redistricting to include the communities along Hwy 4 down to the Douglas Flat area since the last election. As we were bouncing between events we missed her speech and wanting to be fair on giving the candidates an opportunity to get their messages out we conducted an interview with her in the Children's section of the Arnold Library on the Friday after the event....

Bret Harte Hosted a Double Dual Meet Wednesday with Amador and Argonaut High..The Frogs Hop On

Posted by: thepinetree on 03/23/2014 12:42 PM
Angels Camp, CA....Both opponents today were missing a lot of swimmers due to their spring break. Amador and Argonaut have some extremely fast swimmers, and will pose a challenge for us when we meet next, so we will make sure to be ready. Sophomore Brennan Thompson swam section qualifying times in both the 500 freestyle and the 50 yard freestyle. Freshman Kaya Fishman won the 200 yard freestyle and bettered her time by 5 seconds. And junior Bethanni Riedel dropped time in her 500 yard freestyle event and took first place. The bullfrogs continue to swim personal bests and are working extremely hard with both morning and afternoon workouts...

Cruising Panama's Canal, savoring 5,000 nautical miles and 500,000 decadent calories

Posted by: Andy_Johnson on 03/21/2014 12:22 PM
Murphys, CA ... Al and Sunny Lockwood will launch their book "Cruising Panama's Canal, savoring 5,000 nautical miles and 500,000 decadent calories" Sunday, March 23, from 1:30 to 4 p.m. at Gold Country Roasters located at 78 Scott St. Suite A, in Murphys. They'll sign and sell books, and share travel stories. A serious car crash threatened Al and Sunny Lockwood's lives, but instead it led them to the trip of a lifetime, and that trip led to their new, highly-acclaimed book. Their 264-page paperback traces the journey day-by-day, giving readers an intimate glimpse of ocean cruising and a detailed description of transiting the Panama Canal from the Pacific to the Atlantic. A top Amazon reviewer, Jay Mittener, says, "The book is full of all the fun stuff .... Food, entertainment, ins and outs of ship life and, most of all, just a gracious spirit of a couple who loves to travel."
