Val du Vino Winery, Murphys, CA... Each year, on this one special evening, people from all backgrounds come together to celebrate with Sierra HOPE at the annual Red Dress Party. This year the party takes place on Saturday June 14, 2014 at the Val Du Vino Winery in downtown Murphys. Guests attend wearing red dresses…despite age, gender, or sexual orientation. The Red Dress Party is no doubt the most unique costume party in the Mother Lode. All participants will come together for an evening of dancing and music, food and spirits and lots of laughter. The red dresses serve as a powerful symbol of solidarity with people living with AIDS/HIV and remind us that we are all here to make a difference and support a common cause.The party is full of revelry and fun…

District Three Candidates Night At Sequoia Woods

Arnold, CA...With a focus on economic development, candidates for County Supervisor in District 3 will assembled for a questions and answers session at the Sequoia Woods Country Club in Arnold on Tuesday May 6. Candidates for other county races opened the event for the first half hour, followed by a one-hour Q&A session for the county supervisor contenders. This event began at 6:00 PM with meet and greet hour. The Q&A sessions begin at 7:00 PM and the EDC's Bob Doten kept the event on schedule and moving. On April 28th they were on public display on the campus in the Multipurpose Room and the Lower Gym. We stopped by to get a few photos and we tried to get a shot of every project....

Angels Camp, CA...The Bret Harte Boys capped off a perfect 16-0 Season on Friday with a Mother Lode League Varsity Championship on their home water. It was the best results in the team's 14 year history. The Lady Frogs hopped into second and Calaveras Boys were Third and the Girls were fourth. Economic Development Candidates Night With District 3 Supervisor Focus May 6 At Sequoia Woods (Tonight!!)

Arnold, CA...With a focus on economic development, candidates for County Supervisor in District 3 will assemble for a questions and answers session at the Sequoia Woods Country Club in Arnold on Tuesday May 6. Candidates for other county races will open the event for the first half hour, followed by a one-hour Q&A session for the county supervisor contenders. This event will begin at 6:00 PM with meet and greet hour. Voters are encouraged to come early and enjoy a beverage or meal from the lounge menu while personally meeting the candidates. In addition to the supervisors, those vying for sheriff and the two superior court benches will be present. The Q&A sessions begin at 7:00 PM.

4th Annual Soroptimist Chili Cook-off Spices Murphys Hotel Garden

Murphys, CA ... Soroptimist International of Calaveras County presented their fourth annual Chili Cook Off at the Murphys Hotel on Saturday. The competition was keen, colorful, loud and friendly. The styles of chili and presentation themes were diverse. Music from the Plan B Band kept the pace as hot as the chili. The mission of the Soroptimists is,"Improving the lives of women and girls in the local communities and throughout the world," but it appeared that a lot of men and boys were having a pretty good day at the Soroptimist Chili Cook-off.
The winners of the chili cooking contest were Witness Protection -1st place, Tex Mex Trio - 2nd place and Calaveras Chamber of Commerce -3rd place. In the theme contest the winners were Chili Queens - 1st place, Murphys Hotel - 2nd place, Witness Protection -3rd place.
