At higher elevations...scattered showers and thunderstorms early in the morning...then isolated showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. Highs 62 to 77 higher elevations...76 to 86 lower elevations. Prevailing southeast winds up to 10 mph shifting to the southwest in the afternoon. Tonight Clear...colder. Lows 40 to 55 higher elevations... 52 to 64 lower elevations. Prevailing southwest winds 5 to 15 mph in the evening becoming light....

Angels Camp, CA...The Bret Harte Bullfrogs dropped their non-conference game to Orestimba on Friday Night and are now are even in the win and loss columns early in the 2014 Season. The Calaveras Redskins dropped Friday's home non-conference game against Escalon by a score of 33-25. Around the MLL Summerville is undefeated so far followed by Sonora and Bret Hart at .500 and the rest of the MLL will be seeking their first wins of the season this week...

Slavik leads Hovey Winery Tasting Room

Murphys, Sept. 7, 2014 – Hovey Winery in Murphys is proud to announce Tricia Slavik as the new Tasting Room Manager and Wine Club Director. “We are so excited to have Tricia lead our team,” said Jan Hovey. “She brings a great amount of experience and is incredibly creative. Our kids grew up together in Murphys and she was our very first wine club member. She’s always been so supportive of our business and is a good friend.”

Joyce Ellen Hacker October 8, 1958 – July 30, 2014

Murphys, CA...The world is a sadder place with the loss of Joyce Hacker. She died July 30 in her home after a courageous battle with cancer. Joyce was born in Walnut Creek on October 8, 1958. At 19 she moved to Murphys to be closer to skiing and the greater outdoors. She married John Hacker in 1984 and together they raised their two children Wesley and Kaitlyn. She devoted herself to numerous causes and became a beloved fixture in the community. If you knew Joyce, you knew how much she liked to have fun. Whether it was the Rolling Stones, Fabulous Off Brothers or virtually anything live, she was an avid music lover who loved to dance. A spirited fighter, Joyce never gave up. She remained positive, gracious and concerned about the well-being of others until the end...
