| Murphys, CA...Over the course of the past ten years, the board of the Murphys Community Club (MCC) has received many requests from local residents to construct bocce courts in or around Murphys Park. The initial effort began in 2008 with the formation of interested volunteers joining a committee and enlisting the talents of a then local landscape architect to draw up professional plans. Unfortunately, due to property line issues, those plans were thwarted and the project was shelved for future consideration. In late 2013 the MCC board formed a partnership with Angels‐Murphys Rotary Club to revisit the project, and with the assistance of District 3 Supervisor Merita Callaway and the Calaveras County staff, a new location for the courts was selected and the project is now well underway.... |

Murphys, CA...In California, fires are one of our greatest threats. During fire season, never knowing where they may ignite, it would seem as though none of us are free from worry. While many of us have had to endure smoky air and ash falling from the sky throughout the years, we cannot fathom the devastation of losing all that we hold dear to a fire's path of destruction....

San Andreas, CA...Mark Twain Medical Center (MTMC) announces it will be opening a Heart Center under the direction of newly recruited Cardiologist Dr. Courtney Virgilio to the Medical Center Campus, where she will serve as the Medical Director of Cardiac Services. “She is an outstanding cardiologist,” said Craig Marks, Hospital President. “She will be instrumental in our development of a state-of-the-art Heart Center for the residents of Calaveras County.”

Murphys, CA...Born Oct. 12, 1925 in Greenbay Wis. passed away peacefully on Sept. 8, 2014. Jean passed of natural causes in Sonora, CA. She was proceeded in death by husband Eric Rudolph Theis. Later by longtime companion, Richard (Dick) Lynn. Jean is survived by siblings Joan Kelso and Rich Halpine. Her children Ethel Luiz, Pam Mello, and son Richard (Sandy) Theis. Also, nine grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, and fifteen great great grandchildren. Jean leaves with us a legacy of love, kindness, joy and faith. She will be greatly missed and forever loved.....

ARC Art Featured At Hovey In October |

Murphys, CA...The artwork of developmentally and intellectually disabled members of The Arc of Amador and Calaveras will be featured the month of October at Hovey Winery Tasting Room, 350 A Main St., Murphys. An artist’s reception will be held in their honor from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Sunday Oct. 12. Complimentary appetizers will be served and wine will be available by the glass for $5. “We have found that all of the arts – fine art, crafts and other means of self-expression – allow the people we serve to express themselves in ways that they often are unable to do with words,” said Peggy Cunningham, Arc Director of Services, Calaveras Campus. “Each piece of art is personal and as unique as the individual who created it.”
