Fireworks Not Allowed Everywhere

Posted by: thepinetree on 06/27/2014 06:37 PM
San Andreas, CA... Each year illegal and misused fireworks cause serious injuries and damaging wildfires. The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) is taking a zero tolerance stand against anyone possessing, transporting or using illegal fireworks. The penalties for possessing, transporting or using illegal fireworks ranges from a misdemeanor up to felony charges plus the cost incurred for fire suppression. Illegal fireworks in California are those that explode, leave the ground, or move about uncontrollably. Illegal fireworks include sky rockets, bottle rockets, and roman candles. Use of any fireworks which causes an injury or fire may result in a citation or arrest...

2014 Vineyard Tour & BBQ - “The Grape to the Glass Tour” On July 25th

Posted by: Lea_Marie_C_Paar on 06/27/2014 11:17 AM
Murphys, Ca....This year’s tour will involve discussions with the vineyard manager AND the winemakers at each vineyard to help our guests understand how a premium wine is created from the vineyard to the bottle and the important steps that need to occur along the way. It is our desire to show the importance of the relationship between the grower and ther winery and how their dialogue sets the stage for high-quality wine production. As usual, the Vineyard Tour is an educational program that allows wine industry members as well as the general public to visit many of the Calaveras vineyards which contribute to the rise of the impact of region on the wine-drinking world. At each stop there will be discussions about every aspect of vineyard operations that affect wine-quality and land stewardship with topics ranging  from pest management, irrigation, fertilization, cover-croping, canopy management and other cultural practices. A general wrap-up of the day will be given by our guest specialists at the evening BBQ. Our guest specialist, Glenn McGourty, is a seasoned expert in Organic and Biodynamic Winegrape production with a down-to-earth and practical approach to farming. Tour Specialist Lynn Wunderlich represents UCCE in the Central Sierra region and las worked tirelessly to help Foothill growers make their mark on the California wine map. The vineyard tour registration fee is $25/person and includes lunch. You may drive your own car or shuttle service is available for an additional $30 per person (limited to 24 passengers). Since we will be pouring tastings at several vineyards and due to restricted access to some vineyards, we strongly recommended everyone take the bus. If you will be following in your own car and plan to taste wine, please have a designated driver...

Vallecito Union School District's Board Moves Forward With Process To Discipline Board Member

Posted by: thepinetree on 06/26/2014 06:19 PM
Avery, Ca...The Vallecito Union School District Board was back in session last evening and most of the meeting was routine with passage of the budget etc. Then the meeting came to item C-2 on the agenda. It dealt with what has been alleged as a pattern of inappropriate behavior by Board member Gordon. Leading up to the meeting she was urged privately to resign to honor her years of service and save her and the district from a drawn out process of discipline and probable recall election. Recall petitions were in most likelihood submitted today with a probable placement on the November ballot. We do not like to record events such as this but since it involved an elected official and we had several requests, we felt it was appropriate to do so...
