Japanese Educators Visit V.U.S.D. to See Student iPad Use |

Avery, CA...Educators from the Okinawa Amicus International School in Japan recently paid a visit to Hazel Fischer Elementary School and Avery Middle School, an Apple Distinguished School, to see first-hand how the two schools are implementing one-on-one student iPad computing in grades K-8. The Japanese teachers had read in the popular Japanese interior design and lifestyle magazine, Casa Brutus, about Hazel Fischer's iPad implementation in a feature article about the 5th grade class and its collaboration with the tech lab coordinator at the school. During their visit, they also explored policies and practices that facilitate students at Avery Middle School taking home and using school iPads for even greater access to one-to-one computing.

Michelson Students Visit "Art on Main" |

Murphys, CA...Art On Main a coop art gallery of mostly local artists played host to some young art lovers las week. The students from Miss Berry's 5th Grade class from Michelson Elementary learned about mediums, subject, and approaches. They were then asked to find four different mediums, and recreate on their pictures frames provided. The students enjoyed listening to music as they took in an opportunity to further their knowledge of art. Their host for the day, was retired teacher and artist Sue King...

Murphys, CA...September started with a bang for Labor Day Weekend, lots of people in Red, White and Blue having a great time. The 2012 Summer Concert Series from Ironstone wrapped up their season with a performance by Jeff Foxworthy on September 8th. On September 15th Murphys Historic Hotel served our Taste-y House Smoked Salmon paired with a Kalamato Olive Tapenade at the Taste of Calaveras at the Calaveras County Fairgrounds, and we were awarded The Best of Calaveras Food! We hosted a talented group of painters from Marin County, who enjoyed painting the wonderful scenery of Calaveras County. Thank you for showing us Murphys through your eyes....
