Spring Photography Contest at Reclamation’s New Melones Lake

Sonora, CA...The Bureau of Reclamation announces the third annual spring photography contest at New Melones Lake. The contest is only open to amateur photographers and the deadline for submissions is June 3, 2019. The photo contest has three categories: landscape, flora/fauna, and recreation. Participants may submit one photograph per category. All photographs must be from the New Melones Lake Recreation Area, taken in 2019, and must be in their original, un-edited form.

Happy Ending in Missing Person Case in Tuolumne County

Sonora, CA...79 year old Alice Hobbs returned home. From the Tuolumne Sheriff's Office..."Update 11 PM: Alice was located nearly 1.5 miles away from her Elizabeth Lane address at a home on Belleview Road. She had a scratch on her leg and was confused as to where she was going or why she left home. Alice along with her sweet dog Carmelita were taken back to their home to be reunited with family. Thank you to everyone who shared this post and assisted our personnel in searching. We have an amazing community who always comes together in a time of need.

OHV Enthusiasts Encouraged to Join Stanislaus National Forest at Open House April 4

Sonora, CA...The Stanislaus National Forest is hosting an open house to gather feedback and answer questions from OHV enthusiasts on April 4 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Forest Supervisor’s office, 19777 Greenley Road, Sonora. The forest submitted preliminary applications for the Off-Highway Motor Vehicle Recreation Division 2019/ 2020 grant cycle. The applications to the OHMVR Division include a ground operations grant for maintenance and repair of routes and trails, including OHV facilities, a law enforcement grant to support OHV law enforcement activities across the forest and a forest-wide restoration grant to repair areas impacted by unauthorized OHV activity.

Two Canine Fatalities in Home Fire Last Night

Sonora, CA...From the Tuolumne Sheriff's Office..."Last night around 11 PM, Sheriff’s Deputies and Fire crews responded to a fully engulfed house fire in the 25000 block of Richards Ranch Road in Sonora. A family dog alerted the homeowner to flames that appeared to have started in the garage of the home. The occupants were able to escape safely with one person suffering minor burns. It was reported two of the family’s dogs did not make it out safely. The origin of the fire has not yet been determined."

Lane Change Takes Life of Ceres Resident Joshua Cody Boykin on Hwy 120 (Updated)

Jamestown, CA...On March 13, 2019 at approximately 6:25 pm, 25 year old Turlock resident, Jeffery Smith, was driving a 2000 Chevrolet Tahoe traveling westbound on State Route 120 west of O’Byrnes Ferry Road at approximately 50-55 mph, in a line of vehicles. A 45 year old Ceres resident Joshua Cody Boykin was riding a 2016 Yamaha R1 motorcycle traveling approximately 50-55 mph, a few vehicles to the rear of Smith’s Tahoe. After eastbound traffic passed, the 45 year old rider moved his motorcycle into the eastbound lane and began to pass slower moving vehicles in front of him. As the motorcycle was pulling alongside the Tahoe, Smith moved to the left and began to enter the eastbound lane. Smith’s Tahoe struck the motorcycle, causing the Yamaha to travel to the left, across the eastbound lane and onto the shoulder.

Two DUI Arrests After Pursuits

Sonora, CA...From the Tuolumne Sheriff's Office..."Two DUI drivers were recently arrested after leading Deputy Kutch on separate pursuits. On March 2nd, Deputy Kutch was driving through downtown Sonora at 11 o’clock at night when he was forced to slam on his brakes to avoid a collision with a truck. The driver, 32-year-old Gerald Miller of Tuolumne, was driving the wrong way down a one way street and pulled out in front of our deputy, then lead him on a chase. During the pursuit, Miller rammed his truck into Deputy Kutch’s patrol car. Thankfully, the deputy was not injured in the collision.

Jamestown, CA...From Tuolumne Sheriff's Office..."Drugs and stolen property found after a Jamestown traffic stop. One of our deputies stopped a truck at Donovan and Main Street driven by 23-year-old Majer Montoya because he failed to stop at a stop sign.
