Multiple Major Injuries Including Juvenile Flown to UC Davis in Hwy 108 Collision Near Twain Harte

Twain Harte, CA...On December 11, 2019 at approximately 4:50pm, a 26-year-old female from Twain Harte was driving her 2008 Subaru, with her 1-year-old male juvenile passenger from Twain Harte, on eastbound State Route 108, preparing to make a left turn onto Twain Harte Drive. At that same time, 70-year-old Patrick Vierra of Twain Harte was driving his 2012 Infiniti, with passenger 61-year-old Sandra Vierra of Twain Harte, on westbound State Route 108, east of Twain Harte Drive. The female driver failed to yield the right of way and turned her vehicle directly in front of Mr. Vierra’s vehicle. Mr. Vierra was unable to avoid a collision with the Subaru and the left front of his vehicle collided with the right side of the female driver’s vehicle. After the collision, the female driver’s vehicle traveled westbound on State Route 108 where it came to rest. After coming to rest, her vehicle caught fire and became fully engulfed in flames. All the occupants from the vehicle that had caught fire were removed and treated for their injuries. Mr. Vierra’s vehicle traveled northwest and came to rest within the shoulder of State Route 108 and Twain Harte Drive.

Felony DUI Arrest for La Grange Man After Injury Collision

Jamestown, CA...On December 8, 2019 just after 6:00 pm, 68-year-old John William Birdsong of La Grange was driving alone in his 1990 Nissan Pathfinder southbound on State Route 49, North of Fifth Avenue at approximately 50 miles per hour. At that same time, 27-year-old George Hernandez-Mejia of Pittsburg, CA along with 6 occupants were stopped at the red traffic signal for southbound State Route 49 at Fifth Avenue in his 2013 Chevrolet Express Van. Due to Mr. Birdsongs unsafe speed for the stopped traffic ahead of him, he was unable to stop in time before the front of his vehicle crashed into the rear of Mr. Hernandez-Mejia’s vehicle. After the crash, Mr. Birdsong’s vehicle continued to travel off the north shoulder of State Route 49 and down an embankment.

CAL FIRE Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit Transitions Out of Peak Fire Season

San Andreas, CA...Recent rains and cooler temperatures across the region have lowered the threat of wildfires allowing CAL FIRE Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit (TCU) to transition out of peak fire season effective Friday, December 6, 2019 at 8:00 a.m. in Tuolumne, Calaveras and the eastern portions of San Joaquin and Stanislaus Counties.
Open Burn Season Starts December 6th, Permits Not Required in Cal Fire TCU

San Andreas, CA...On Friday, December 6, 2019 at 8 a.m. CAL FIRE Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit (TCU) will lift the burn permit requirement for Calaveras, Tuolumne, and the Eastern portions of San Joaquin and Stanislaus Counties, within the State Responsibility Area. CAL FIRE burn permits will NOT be required and burn hours are not restricted. Open burning is allowed on “Permissive Burn Days” as established by the Air Pollution Control District in each county. In Calaveras County, burning on property five acres or more in size requires a permit from the Air Pollution Control District. In Tuolumne County, burning on property two acres or more in size requires a permit from the Air Pollution Control District.
