CCWD on Governor’s Request for All Californians to reduce Water Consumption by 20%

San Andreas, CA...Calaveras County Water District continues to urge customers to use water wisely. Water conservation is always a good idea. As the Drought picture becomes clear, CCWD will implement appropriate programs and policies to address water conservation. At this time, the district is advising that all measures are voluntary. While water supplies may be challenged during the upcoming year; good stewardship of the districts’ resources may be adequate to avoid mandatory restrictions...

Tuolumne County Receives $20 Million in Jail Funding

Sonora, CA...Tuolumne County Sheriff Mele is pleased to announce that on January 16th, 2014 the California State Board of State and Community Corrections approved the SB 1022 Funding Award for the Tuolumne County Jail Project. The award is for twenty million dollars. The money was conditionally awarded to Tuolumne County in December of 2013, but became official and received approval on January 16, 2014....

Angels Camp, CA....A small group of local residents are working together to encourage and promote random acts of kindness throughout Calaveras county. In 1995, the Angels Camp City Council passed a proclamation that Angels Camp is a Kindness Zone. Once again we are asking the Calaveras County Board of Supervisors to pass a county-wide Kindness Zone proclamation as well. (both the city and county have proclaimed kindness zones)...

Mark Twain Medical Center Awards $26,000 in Community Grants to Non Profit Organizations

San Andreas, CA...Yesterday Mark Twain Medical Center continued their tradition of helping in the community. They held their Annual Awards Luncheon at the hospital where the 6 organizations were chosen to receive grants from a total of 19 who applied. The awardees are: Arc of Amador and Calaveras – (provides support and services to persons with developmental disabilities to encourage mainstream life, work, learning and recreation). Disability Resource Agency for Independent (supports the independence of individuals with disabilities through resources, advocacy and services). Ebbetts Pass Firefighters Association (CPR classes and AED education for community). San Andreas Community Covenant Church (to provide free community meals every Wednesday). Resource Connection - Food Bank (serves 2,523 families-accounting for 17% of the population of Calaveras County). The Volunteer Center (mileage reimbursement to volunteers that provide transportation to vulnerable citizens)...

Crandall Underburn on the Stanislaus National Forest Starts January 22nd

Red Cross Urges Preparedness as Wildfire Risk is Elevated Warm, dry conditions trigger Red Flag Warnings in foothills and Sierras

Sacramento, CA...It may only be January, but with a prolonged dry spell and warmer conditions than normal, it’s already beginning to look a lot like fire season. On Tuesday, the National Weather Service issued a Red Flag Warning for parts of the Sierra Nevadas due to high winds and low relative humidity. The Red Flag Warnings are expected to remain in effect until Friday morning....

Fire Update...Woodpile/Structure Fire in Jamestown

Jamestown, CA...Crews are on scene of a woodpile/structure fire on Fallen Leaf Drive near Greenwood. Initial reports are that the fire started in a woodpile and then caught at least some of a structure on fire. Crews were trying to make access to the attic. PG&E was initially called to the scene but later canceled which is a good sign that the damage was not extensive...
