New Melones Sunday Drowning Victim Identified~by John Hamilton

New Melones, CA...The Tuolumne County Sheriff's department has released the name of the 16 year old who drowned yesterday as Aaron Tyler from the Salinas area. Apparently the victim was boating with friends and he decided to climb and jump off of a rock wall. He jumped about 75ft down in the lake and did not resurface. They were unable to locate him when the accident was called in as we reported yesterday...

Sonora, CA...Already providing 3G service from several sites in the Sonora area Golden State Cellular announces the addition of Mobile Broadband to their cell site located off Camage Avenue in the East Sonora area adjacent to the SPI facility. With customers increasing appetite for mobile data applications such as: email, internet access and picture messaging, 3G Mobile Broadband provides a more robust data experience with higher data rates (speed) and the ability to transfer larger files, stream video and music. The company is scheduled to add the technology to multiple existing sites before the end of 2010.

Yosemite National Park, CA....On Saturday, July 17, 2010, the Yosemite Youth Conservation Corps (YCC) held their 37th annual Parents Day at Badger Pass in Yosemite National Park. Parents Day marks the half-way point for teenagers participating in the YCC program at Yosemite, and provides an opportunity for parents to see their children spend the day working in the park. The day is concluded with a barbecue prepared by the YCC kitchen crew and served at a gathering at Badger Pass. ....

Columbia College Foundation Elects New Board President

The Columbia College Foundation Board of Directors has elected Mel Kirk to serve as Board President, beginning July 2010, serving a two-year term. Kirk will replace out-going President Randy Selesia, who served from July 2008 to June 2010. The Board also elected Dwain McDonald, retired Tuolumne County Superintendent of Schools, to serve as Vice President; Keturah Wilk as Treasurer; and Doralyn Foletti as Secretary. “We are very fortunate to have a committed Board of Directors that bring such a diverse range of skills and experience from which we can draw,” noted Beccie Michael, Director of Development. “I’m looking forward to working with each of our new officers, and am so grateful for those who have served over the years.”..

Yosemite National Park to be Featured in New iPhone Application

Yosemite National Park announces the first mobile application is available for visitors to use on their iPhone. The application will feature the hike to Lower Yosemite Fall, offering multiple locations in which visitors can stop and learn about the surrounding environment. The iPhone / iTouch application features a Global Positioning System (GPS) map which highlights the visitors' location as they walk to Lower Yosemite Fall. The application highlights 22 points of interest with stories of wildlife, the environment, John Muir, floods, fires, and forests. In addition, the application will allow visitors to easily locate the nearest restroom, visitor center, museum, and shuttle bus stops. ....

Twana Williamson Passes Away in Groveland Accident

Groveland, CA...Twana Williamson, 59, was driving her 2007 Ford Escape eastbound on Upper Skyridge Drive east of Lower Skyridge Drive in the Pine Mountain Lake subdivision at an undetermined speed. She may have been under the influence of an alcoholic beverage according to her husband. She was also not wearing her seatbelt. As she negotiated a left curve in the roadway, she allowed her Escape to travel to the right and down the east decline embankment...
