ARB To Consider "Good Faith Efforts" For Diesel Fleet Operators

San Andreas, CA...On October 8, 2013, the Calaveras County Air Pollution Control Board sent a letter to Governor Brown addressing their concerns associated with the unintended economic consequences associated with the Air Resources Board (ARB) Truck and Bus On-Road In-Use Regulation. The Board outlined several options for ARB consideration in providing short term relief to rural areas. On October 17, 2013, the Mountain Counties Air Basin Control Council representing the Northern Sierra Air Quality Management District and Placer, El Dorado, Amador, Calaveras, Tuolumne and Mariposa Air Pollution Control Districts, sent a letter to ARB requesting similar relief. As a result of these requests, in addition to requests from other Districts in California, ARB is considering providing some relief from the regulation. The ARB press release is as follows:

Rim Fire Hazard Trees Project Announced

Sonora, CA (November 18, 2013)…Stanislaus Forest Supervisor Susan Skalski today announced that a proposed action for the Rim Fire Hazard Tree (Rim HT) project is available for comment. The project proposes to improve public health and safety by removing standing hazard trees and other trees previously felled during fire suppression across 7,630 acres of National Forest lands within and adjacent to 148 miles of high use roads and other developed facilities....

Columbia, CA...Tickets are available for the 47th Annual AAUW Home Tour, scheduled for Saturday, December 7, from 12 to 4 p.m. Members of the Sonora Branch of AAUW* are busy preparing for their major fundraiser of the year, featuring a tour of four outstanding homes in Sonora and Columbia, including the recently restored Curtin Mansion. Tickets are $20 for the affair, which also includes tea and cookies, a boutique, and the popular basket raffle in Faith Hall at the Church of the 49ers, located on Parrotts Ferry Road and Jackson Street in Columbia. To ease congestion, this year there is a shuttle bus (provided by Linkline Charters) which can be caught at the Columbia Elementary School. It will run continuously between the school and the two homes in the Columbia area between 12 and 4 p.m.

Twain Harte, CA...The proposed burn area is located off Italian Bar Road, 0.5 miles south of Deer Creek, along Forest Road 3N24 at Township 3N, Range 16E, Sections 28-30. Smoke may be visible from Hwy 108 in the Twain Harte/Mi-Wuk area. The prescribed burn is expected to begin on or about November 6th, 2013, with burning to continue through the next several weeks or as conditions allow. Burning is contingent on weather, fuel moisture, and air quality. All burning is monitored and conducted in accordance with state and county air quality guidelines, and closely coordinated with local county air quality control districts. A total of 280 acres are to be treated with low-intensity fire...

Sonora, CA...The Bureau of Reclamation’s Central California Area Office has rescheduled the C.A.S.T. (Catch a Special Thrill) for Kids fishing event which had previously been scheduled for Oct. 12 at New Melones Lake but was cancelled due to the federal government shutdown. The event will now be held on Saturday, Nov. 9, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at New Melones Lake’s Tuttletown Boat Launch in the Tuttletown Recreation Area. New Melones Lake is located in Calaveras and Tuolumne counties, approximately 60 miles east of Stockton, Calif...
