Two Fires Reported in Sonora Over the Weekend

Sonora, CA....CAL Fire reported two fires in Sonora over the weekend. The first one Friday 13th at 189 Barretta Street in Sonora involving a structure. For full details contact Sonora City Fire. The second was a vegetation fire that occurred at 20034 Hwy 108 and 1198 Washington Street. No injuries in either fire are being reported. CAL Fire reports are enclosed.....

Two More Fires Reported in Tuolumne County Over the Weekend

Tuolumne County, CA...CAL Fire reported two more fires over the weekend in Toulumne County. A 1 acre vegetation fire occurred on Friday June 13th at 20846 Caylor Drive in Soulsbyville caused by juveniles playing with fire. No injuries. Estimated dollar damage reported $200. A vehicle fire occurred on June 14th at 16615 Creekside Drive/21800 Robinson Road in Crystal Falls that was caused by a spontaneous combustion of linens. A 2007 Ford Van was destroyed by fire that extended into a 50'x50' spot of vegetation. Dollar damages are estimated at $60,000 for the vehicle. The CAL Fire reports are enclosed....

CHP Wants You to "Arrive Alive"...CHP Tuolunmne County Receives Grant to Enhance Highway Safety. (Updated with Higher Res Video)

Jamestown, CA....Tuolumne County CHP Commander Mike Ayala led a press conference this morning in Jamestown on a Federal Grant they received. CHP of Tuolumne County was a recipient of a federal grant targeted at areas with high death rate per mile. The highway 12 corridor received a similar grant. This grant will pay for 1,000 officer hours that can be targeted at enforcement specifically. Also included are funds for 200 Sergeant hours and additional funds for public service announcements and outreach. The program officially started on June 1st and will run for one calender year. FIRE NEWS....Lake Don Pedro Fire Update...1200 Acres Now Burned plus Two Structures, 90% Contained

Don Pedro, CA...Crews and lots of resources are on a fire that has consumed several hundred acres and at least two structures in the Lake Don Pedro area. It has recently jumped the Tuolumne River and that changes the complexity of this fire considerably. From our last conversation with CAL Fire's Lisa Williams it seems this unfortunate turn of events may give this fire fresh territory to roll through. Let's hope the crews can rapidly get the upper hand. If you are traveling in that area you may experience delays. J59 has been closed at 132 for the last couple of hours. Update enclosed...

The Kids Were Having Fun in Tuttletown on Saturday! We have Pictures and We Have Video

Tuttletown, CA....On Saturday morning, bright and early, we ventured across the bridge to Tuolumne County where the Tuttletown Recreation Area was playing host to the Annual Fun Fishing Day for Kids hosted by the CAST for Kids Foundation. This event is held for disabled or disadvantaged children between the ages of 5~16. Eleven local skippers brought out their boats to take the kids fishing and the Calaveras County Sheriff's Department was also on had to take kids on boat rides. Numerous organizations were on hand to make sure the kids had a great day. They could even get their picture taken and mounted on a plaque for free. The Arnold Rotary Club had a great gold panning booth and there was even a snake exhibit for the kids....

The subject area consists of public, Me-Wuk tribal, and private land accessed by Tuolumne Road North.......

Columbia, CA....The public is invited to attend the groundbreaking ceremony for Columbia College’s Public Safety Center on Monday, June 16 at 10:00 a.m. The ceremony will be held at the present fire house site on the college campus, located off Sawmill Flat Road in Sonora. The Public Safety Center will consolidate existing campus emergency services into a single location. This includes Columbia College Fire Station #79, Columbia College Campus....

"Columbia Diggins Tent Town 1852" Continues Through Sunday!

Columbia State Park, CA....The 28th Annual Columbia Diggins 1852 will run Thursday May 29th~June 1st. Staff and volunteers of Columbia State Historic Park recreate the 1852 town of tents and shacks which sprung up in the wake of the discovery of gold. Hundreds of volunteers put a great deal of effort and research into this event, to depict as accurately as possible, the original town. Live music, gambling and games of the period, food, and mining activities provide a unique glimpse into life in 1852. 10-5 each day. $3 Adults, $1 Children......
