Sonora, CA...Tuolumne County Board of Supervisors approved Ordinance Code Chapter 8.70 related to Fire and Life Safety Inspections for Short-Term rentals in the unincorporated areas of Tuolumne County. To keep all Tuolumne County residents and visitors safer, effective January 19, 2024, it is unlawful to maintain, operate, or use a short-term rental in the unincorporated areas of Tuolumne County without a Tuolumne County Fire Department (TCFD) Fire and Life Safety Inspection.

89 Year Old Sonora Man Loses His Life in Tuolumne Road Collision

Sonora, CA...On January 26, 2024, at approximately 4:10 pm, an 89-year-old male driver of Sonora was driving a 1992 Toyota pickup southbound on Black Oak Road, while stopped for the stop sign at the intersection with Tuolumne Road. At that same time, 67-year-old Janice Greengo of Jamestown was driving a 2006 GMC Envoy westbound on Tuolumne Road, approaching the intersection with Black Oak Road, at approximately 45 MPH. The driver of the Toyota failed to yield the right-of-way to Ms. Greengo and entered the intersection, directly into the path of the GMC.

Sonora Man Loses His Life in Vehicle vs Pedestrian Collision on Mono Way

Sonora, CA...On January 28, 2024, at approximately 7:55 pm, 65-year-old Thomas Solis of Sonora was walking eastbound on Mono Way, within the number 2 lane, east of Cordelia Avenue. Mr. Solis was wearing dark clothing, facing away from traffic, during hours of darkness in an area that is not illuminated by streetlights. At that same time, 39-year-old Joseph Brinegar of Sonora was driving a GMC Acadia eastbound on Mono Way at approximately 40-45 MPH, approaching Mr. Solis’ location. Mr. Brinegar did not see that Mr. Solis was in his lane before the right front of his vehicle struck Mr. Solis.

Help Locate Runaway Juvenile Ayden French

Sonora, CA...We are seeking the public's help in locating 17-year-old Ayden French. French is described as a 17-year-old, white male, 165 pounds, 6'2", with blonde hair, green eyes and with both ears pierced. He was last seen leaving his family home on foot on January 10th, 2024. French was last seen wearing grey cargo pants, a white shirt, grey hoodie and white Nike shoes. Anyone who has seen French or knows of his whereabouts is urged to contact the Sheriff's Office at 209-533-5815.

Sonora, CA...Railroad officials advise it will take considerable time to bring in the equipment to move the derailed cars. There is no access to Hospital Road between South Washington Street and Nevada Street. Residents and other traffic needing to access other portions of Hospital Road will need to use South Washington Street via Hwy 108 and use Nevada Street by way of Calaveras Street.

Tuolumne Search & Rescue Acquires New Polaris Ranger

Sonora, CA...Exciting news from our Search and Rescue (SAR) team! Thanks to the incredible support from our community during our past Annie Oakley fundraisers, we were able to acquire a Polaris Ranger Side-by-Side with tracks. This newly acquired asset went out on its maiden voyage over the weekend and played a crucial role in successfully assisting two individuals stranded in the snow near Cherry Lake. Our dedicated team's quick response and the versatility of the Ranger made all the difference in our ability to successfully and safely navigate the elements to provide assistance.
