Sonora, CA...TuCARE’s Annual Dinner & Auction is March 8th, 2014 at the Sonora Elks Lodge. Social Time begins at 5:00 pm. Dinner and Awards at 6:30 pm. Featured Speaker Bruce Vincent will deliver a rousing speech titled "With Vision There Is Hope". Bruce Vincent is a third generation logger from Libby, Montana. During the past 20 years, he has given motivational speeches throughout the United States and the world, has testified on natural resource issues before Congress and has appeared on several news programs such as “60 Minutes”. Bruce has been named Timberman of the Year in Montana, National Forest Activist of the Year, the Agri-Women’s 2007 Veritas Award Winner, and in 2004 received the inaugural Presidential Preserve America Award from President Bush. Bruce has been married to his wife Patti Jo for 35 years and has four children, two sons-in-law, one daughter-in-law, and five grandchildren. His current activities represent a family commitment to responsible environmentalism....

Tuolumne, CA...Tickets are now on sale for The Straits performance at Black Oak Casino Resort on March 26th. The Straits is comprised of Dire Straits' Alan Clark and Chris White with five hand-picked, world class musicians - Terence Reis, Steve Ferrone from Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Mickey Féat, Adam Phillips and Jamie Squire. As of now, Black Oak Casino Resort is the only stop in California on their U.S. tour. Dire Straits’ legacy is alive and well thanks to the musicians who made history with the band. Sonora, CA...Sonora CA...Last night just before 9:00 PM and 1981 BMW drivin by an Angels Camp woman was traveling northbound on Rawhide Road, north of French Flat Road at approximately 40 miles per hour with a passenger in the right front seat. She was involved in a head on collision with a vehicle driven by a Salt Lake City man. The driver and passenger of the BMW were transported to SRMC for their injuries and her passenger 44 year old Dawn E. Hartwig, from Angels Camp succumbed to her injuries while en route to the hospital....

Sonora, CA...The Forest Service announced today that the Stanislaus National Forest (NF) is seeking public comment on preliminary 2015 off-highway vehicle grant applications for consideration by the California State Parks Off-Highway Motor Vehicle Recreation (OHVMR) Division. Forest recreation specialists have completed two draft grant applications, proposing a total of two off-highway vehicle (OHV) projects. The proposals are prepared under OHVMR Division program revised regulations approved in January....

One Search Warrant was served at a residence in the 16000 block of Creekside Drive and the other Search Warrant was served at McClouds Pet Emporium in the Junction Shopping Center. The investigation was focused on the alleged sexual relationship between thirty nine year old Kenneth McLeod, and the sixteen year old female victim...

Rural Counties Thank U.S. Senators Feinstein and Boxer for Extension of Federal PILT Funding |

Sacramento, CA...The Rural County Representatives of California (RCRC) extends its thanks to U.S. Senators Dianne Feinstein and Barbara Boxer for passing the Farm Bill Conference Report (Farm Bill) in the U.S. Senate on Tuesday. Through the passage of the Farm Bill, federal Payment in Lieu of Taxes (PILT) funding is now officially extended for FY 2014, providing resources for rural California counties to provide critical government services. “Federal PILT funding is critical to California’s rural counties, and RCRC is grateful to Senators Feinstein and Boxer for voting to secure this one-year extension through the Farm Bill,” said Lee Adams, RCRC First Vice Chair and Sierra County Supervisor. “Now that we’ve secured the reauthorization for 2014, it’s time to work with Congress to enact a multi-year funding reauthorization, as was the process in years past.”

Sonora, CA...Sonora Regional Medical Center is encouraging its employees to lose unwanted pounds in a Biggest Loser contest. Contestants have approximately three months to eat well and exercise to lose weight. The Medical Center is providing support to the contestants with nutritional therapy and biometric workshops to help them stay on track with their weight loss goals.
