Columbia College Art Professor Heading To Europe

Columbia, CA...Laurie Sylwester – Art Professor at Columbia College has been selected as one of twenty-five Summer Scholars for the “Legacy of Ancient Italy: The Etruscans and Early Romans” a National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Summer Institute. The process was competitive and the scholars come from across the United States. The studies will start in Lugano Switzerland at Franklin University and continue to Bologna, Italy for visits to Archaeological Museums at Marzabotto, Verucchio, and Florence. The studies include Etruscan town planning in Orvieto with a visit to Cannicella Necropolis and other archaeological sites. Studies will continue in Tarquinia with exposure to findings from local excavations. Additional seminars and site visits will include Cortona and Murlo....

Sonora, CA...Tuolumne County Farm Bureau and Tuolumne County Economic Development Authority joined forces to host an event to bring local businesses together with local agricultural producers. “This goal is to get more local produce into our local marketplace,” Elena Linehan, Executive Director of the Farm Bureau, said. A dozen producers gathered this week to discuss their wares and how they can fulfill the needs for local business. The event was called Product to Buyers and used the “speed dating” approach rather than a trade show set up.

Farm Bureau Board President Shaun Crook attended along with Bob Brennan, Sherri Brennan, Jesse Cover, Sasha Farkas, and Elena Linehan. Sonora, CA...The Clinical Nutrition Department at Sonora Regional Medical Center has announced a new Weight Loss Surgery support group. This group was developed for individuals who have had bariatric surgery. Friends and family as well as those who are considering bariatric surgery are welcome to attend. The group will meet once a month to provide ongoing support, encouragement, and education to succeed in lifestyle changes after surgery. Guest speakers will present a variety of topics for discussion including diet, exercise and social support...

Endangered Sierra Nevada Bighorn Sheep Restored to Yosemite and Sequoia National Parks

Yosemite, CA...Recently Completed Cooperative Effort Included California Department of Fish and Wildlife, National Park Service, U.S. Forest Service, and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service A multiagency operation was recently concluded that returned two herds of endangered bighorn sheep to locations in Yosemite and Sequoia National Parks. Fire Update....Fire Contained to Recliner In Fire

Twain Harte, CA...Firefighters quickly contained a fire to a recliner and rescued an elderly female who was on oxygen and apparently smoking as well. Great work Firefighters!

Reforestation Takes Front Row in Upcoming Forest Service Meetings

Sonora, CA…The Stanislaus National Forest is seeking public engagement on reforestation of the Forest area affected by the Rim Fire of 2013, a fire that burned 257,314 acres of land, by hosting a workshop and open houses next week. The Reforestation Project proposed action is available for public input/official comment until April 13; reforestation can begin once the Environmental Impact Statement is complete and the Record of Decision is signed (June 2016 estimated completion)....
