Sonora, CA...On November 23, 2013 the Tuolumne County Women’s Network will hold its 2nd Annual Speakeasy Soiree Fundraiser at The Hotel at Black Oak Casino Resort from 5:00pm to 11:00pm. The Tuolumne County Women’s Network was organized to provide an opportunity for women in the business community to meet regularly in order to build their businesses through networking. The network, which has 56 members, is comprised of owners of their own businesses or women who represent businesses in this county.

Angels Camp, CA...The Mother Lode Jewish Community (MLJC) will be holding its annual Chanukah party on Friday, December 6th at 6 p.m. in Murphys, CA. This is a casual, fun evening for families and adults of all ages. If you wish to attend, please call ahead for directions and to reserve your place, as space is limited. There is no charge, but we ask everyone to bring a potluck dish to share. Volunteers are also needed to help set up and clean up. Columbia, CA...Tickets are available for the 47th Annual AAUW Home Tour, scheduled for Saturday, December 7, from 12 to 4 p.m. Members of the Sonora Branch of AAUW* are busy preparing for their major fundraiser of the year, featuring a tour of four outstanding homes in Sonora and Columbia, including the recently restored Curtin Mansion. Tickets are $20 for the affair, which also includes tea and cookies, a boutique, and the popular basket raffle in Faith Hall at the Church of the 49ers, located on Parrotts Ferry Road and Jackson Street in Columbia. To ease congestion, this year there is a shuttle bus (provided by Linkline Charters) which can be caught at the Columbia Elementary School. It will run continuously between the school and the two homes in the Columbia area between 12 and 4 p.m.

Twain Harte, CA...The proposed burn area is located off Italian Bar Road, 0.5 miles south of Deer Creek, along Forest Road 3N24 at Township 3N, Range 16E, Sections 28-30. Smoke may be visible from Hwy 108 in the Twain Harte/Mi-Wuk area. The prescribed burn is expected to begin on or about November 6th, 2013, with burning to continue through the next several weeks or as conditions allow. Burning is contingent on weather, fuel moisture, and air quality. All burning is monitored and conducted in accordance with state and county air quality guidelines, and closely coordinated with local county air quality control districts. Sonora, CA...The Bureau of Reclamation’s Central California Area Office has rescheduled the C.A.S.T. (Catch a Special Thrill) for Kids fishing event which had previously been scheduled for Oct. 12 at New Melones Lake but was cancelled due to the federal government shutdown. The event will now be held on Saturday, Nov. 9, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at New Melones Lake’s Tuttletown Boat Launch in the Tuttletown Recreation Area. New Melones Lake is located in Calaveras and Tuolumne counties, approximately 60 miles east of Stockton, Calif...

Sonora, CA...1 November 2013, at approx. 3:30 pm, officers from the Sonora Police Department responded to South Stewart Street to a report of a male subject punching telephone poles and yelling at passing vehicles. When officers contacted the subject, he took a fighting stance and challenged the officers. An officer drew a TASER and ordered the subject to the ground and the subject complied. The officers approached the subject and placed him in handcuffs...

Yosemite, CA...Yosemite National Park announces the release of the Restoration of the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias Final Environmental Impact Statement (Mariposa Grove FEIS). This landmark plan provides the foundation for the restoration and site improvements in the park’s largest grove of giant sequoias. The Mariposa Grove, along with Yosemite Valley, was included in the Yosemite Grant that was signed into law on June 30, 1864. This marked the first time the federal government set aside land for protection and is considered to be the genesis of the national park idea. The Mariposa Grove contains approximately 500 mature giant sequoia trees that are among the oldest, rarest, and largest living organisms in the world....
