Auburn, CA...The Sierra Nevada Conservancy today released its annual report for the recently concluded state fiscal year, providing an overview of what is needed to restore the Sierra to ecological health, and supply abundant clean water to some 23 million Californians. “We hope the report will provide an understanding of just how important the Sierra Nevada is to the rest of California, while highlighting projects and activities that demonstrate and support the need for investment in upper watersheds,” said SNC Executive Officer Jim Branham. “This Annual Report and the recently released Proposition 84 Report -- ‘Investing in California’s Watershed’ -- will complement one another and provide examples of current on-the-ground success stories, as well as work that lies ahead.”

Posted by: thepinetree on 11/24/2013 09:16 AM
|
Sonora, CA...About 9:45pm last night reports of a commercial fire alarm at Sonora Elementary came in. Usually these end up being false alarms but unfortunately this was not the case last night. A fire raged through the F building and caused damage to several classrooms. According to the TCU command center there were 13 Fire Engines and Crews and 3 Fire Chiefs as well on this fire at it's peak. Sonora Elementary will be out on Thanksgiving break this next week so it does give administrators a few days to assess the damage and make plans on where best to hold the classes displaced by the fire.... |

Las Posadas Nativity Procession in Columbia December 8 |
Posted by: thepinetree on 11/22/2013 02:41 PM
|
Las Posadas is a Spanish tradition that re-enacts the biblical story of Mary and Joseph's search for shelter in Bethlehem on the original Columbia, CA...Christmas Eve. Since 1983 the people of Columbia have put on their own version of Las Posadas each December--with a distinctive 1850s flavor. This year it's the 31st annual! Columbia State Historic Park is decorated for the Christmas season with traditional Christmas boughs and wreaths, and the ambiance is enhanced with luminaries on Main Street, lighting the way for the evening procession. The Mirth & Glee Carolers, in period costume, provide music for the event, and on-lookers participate also in this touching Columbia Christmas tradition--singing Christmas carols by candlelight.
