Stanislaus National Forest, Ramsey Fire Closure Lifted

Sonora, CA...The Forest Closure Order, resulting from the Ramsey Fire in August 2012 that burned approximately 1,137 acres of mixed conifer in the North Fork of the Stanislaus River, is now lifted. The Ramsey Fire forest closure order was scheduled to be in effect from August 16, 2012, through September 12, 2014, but is being opened early due to the completion of necessary rehabilitation work...

Sonora, Ca...University of California Cooperative Extension (UCCE) is holding a Project Learning Tree (PLT) workshop on Friday, August 8, 2014 from 9:00 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Sonora Library. PLT is an award winning environmental education program designed to provide educators working with youth of all ages with environmentally focused lesson plans. Learn to lead fun and engaging activities at this free training workshop. Take home a workbook of 100+ ready-made easy lesson plans which; meet California curriculum standards, require few materials, and take minimal prep time. Lightning hits the Stanislaus National Forest - Fire personnel prepared

Sonora, Ca…Stanislaus National Forest (STF) fire personnel are actively suppressing three fires that started as a result of the most recent weather event; approx. 400 lightning strikes occurred over the forest. Two of the lightning fires are located in the Crabtree Rd. / Aspen Meadows area, and the third is located in the area of Bummers Flat. Each fire is currently under a quarter of an acre; more lightning events are expected over the next few days. “Our goal is to attack the fires while they’re still small, and hit them hard,” said Chris Schow, Forest Fire Chief. “We are also continuing to monitor for other potential fire starts, using both ground personnel and air assets.” All three lightning fires have fire personnel assigned, with significant progress being made to secure fire lines around each of the fires. Since 1970, fire personnel have caught over 98 percent of wildfires at less than 100 acres...

Yosemite National Park announces the availability of the records of decision (RODs) for the Merced and Tuolumne Wild and Scenic Rivers Comprehensive Management Plans.
