Yosemite Meadows Fire Almost 5,000 Acres

Yosemite, CA...Firefighter and public safety remains the highest priority. Fire crews are being sensitive to environmental and cultural resources in and around the fire area. Last night’s infrared flight showed intense heat and hot areas around the north and southeast areas of the fire. Overall, infrared indicates there are still pockets of intense heat scattered through the fire. Due todays increased temperatures and low relative humidity, spots outside the current fires perimeter are expected to flare. Due to the extremely steep, rugged and inaccessible terrain, some fire crews are being flown into the area by helicopter. Air resources, including nine helicopters are being utilized along the fire-line to slow the forward progress of the fire and to cool down hot spots. Due to the potential fire growth and extensive amount of work which remains, a high commitment of resources will be required....

Zarmite Zommers from Mississauga Ontario Loses Her Life & Major Injures To 68 Year Old Man In Motorcycle Accident (Updated)

Groveland, CA...Zarmite Zommers, a 67 year old woman from Mississauga Ontario lost her life as a passenger of a 1999 Harley Davidson motorcycle ridden by a 68 year old Mississauga man. He sustained severe injures according to initial reports and was flown to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto. Her name has not been released yet pending notifications of relatives. The accident occurred at 12:44pm yesterday just east of Old Priest Grade on Hwy 120....

Mark Twain Medical Center Invited Patients & Community To Mix & Mingle With Their Providers

San Andreas, CA...Mark Twain Medical Center has been on a roll. Patient counts are way up. MTMC is well down the path to recruit and bring 30 new physicians to the area. There have been new services, new equipment added, Medical offices spruced up and more. On August 27th, they held a meet and greet allow existing and new patients to get to know their providers outside of an office visit. Refreshments and Hors d'Oeuvres were served, offices available for tours and more....

Yosemite Meadows Fire Update 4,400 Acres, 5% Contained

Yosemite, CA...The Fire is located within the designated wilderness of the Yosemite National Park in Mariposa County and is currently within Little Yosemite Valley between Half Dome and Mount Starr King on both sides of the Merced River. The fire spread significantly due to a wind event which occurred on September 7, 2014. Approximately 100 hikers and backpackers were evacuated from the fire area and an additional 85 hikers and climbers were evacuated by helicopter from the Summit of Half Dome on September 7 due to the rapid spread of the fire. Helicopters from the California Highway Patrol, U.S. Forest Service, Sequoia/Kings Canyon National Park and Cal Fire were utilized to affect the evacuations....

Groveland, CA...Crews are working an incident with severe injures to one party and earlier they were conducting CPR on another. The accident is on Hwy 120 near Big Oak Flat Road. Please use caution and expect delays in the area....(Updated as of 2:05pm...CHP is now reporting that there was a fatality in this motorcycle accident.)

Angels Camp, CA...The Bret Harte Bullfrogs dropped their non-conference game to Orestimba on Friday Night and are now are even in the win and loss columns early in the 2014 Season. The Calaveras Redskins dropped Friday's home non-conference game against Escalon by a score of 33-25. Around the MLL Summerville is undefeated so far followed by Sonora and Bret Hart at .500 and the rest of the MLL will be seeking their first wins of the season this week...

Meadow (37 42.738 x 119 30.541 – Mariposa Co., 7,870’, August 16) This is a remote, hold-over lightning caused fire. Yosemite Fire Module 1 hiked into the fire area September 3. They are mapping, taking weather and monitoring the fire behavior. The fire is approximately 19 acres in size, with sixty percent of the perimeter active. It is creeping through red fir and lodgepole pine, and is surrounded by granite knobs. It is northeast of Mount Starr King and south of Starr King Meadow. Smoke from the fire is visible from many park locations, and in particular, Glacier Point area and in Yosemite Valley during the morning hours. Smoke is likely to continue to be visible until the park receives precipitation. ...

Missing Columbia Woman Found Deceased

Columbia, CA....On 8/28/14 approx. 8:25 A.M. a deceased female was found by searchers inside the search area that was set up in an effort to locate previously reported missing person, Katherine Fiore. A positive identification of the deceased female is still pending. The cause of death is yet to be determined but no foul play is suspected....

California Forestry Association Statement on Rim Fire EIS/ ROD

Sacramento, CA...Below is a statement from California Forestry Association President David Bischel on the proposed EIS and ROD and a couple of points for the ROD. Statement from Calforests’ President David Bischel: "We commend the US Forest Service for putting together an EIS and ROD for the Rim Fire Recovery on the Stanislaus National Forest within the targeted timeframe while keeping a transparent and open process. The California Forestry Association provided input into the process along with numerous other individuals and organizations....
