Yosemite Fire Update, August 21, 2015 |

Yosemite, CA...Upper (37 45.534 x 119 35.983 – Mariposa Co., August 10). This fire was discovered by hikers at approximately 3:30PM, August 10. It is now out and in patrol status. Quick action by the Yosemite Helitack, with supporting water bucket drops, and fire crews held the fire to 3.85 acres. The fire was determined to be human caused and is under investigation. Smoke from the fire may continue to affect air quality in the morning hours. All park trail closures associated with the Upper Falls fire were lifted at 6:00 PM 8/13.

Jeane Presson Found Deceased...Investigation Now Proceeding As A Homicide |

Columbia, CA...On 7/25/15 Jeane Presson was reported missing from her residence at the Columbia Mobile Home Park. Her husband advised the Sheriff’s Office that his wife (Jeane Presson), had walked away from the residence on 7/19/15 and had not returned. The Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office started a missing person investigation and began looking for Presson on 7/25/15.

Three Perish In Fiery Hwy 108 Crash & Spark 120 Acre Vegetation Fire |

Jamestown, CA... A now deceased female was traveling in a 1997 Honda CRV eastbound on State Route 120 in the number one eastbound lane near Tulloch Dam Road. A second now deceased female was traveling in a 2007 RAV 4 westbound on State Route 120 in the number one lane approaching Tulloch Dam Road....

Water Restrictions Lowered to 25% By TUD |

Sonora, CA...Thank you to all of our customers and the entire community for all their water conservation efforts. The District had conserved last month (July), 41% of water use compared to 2013 (water production data). The TUD Board of Directors voted unanimously last night, August 11th, to lower the water conservation reduction to 25% effective immediately for all customers based upon their water usage of 2013. Although the mandatory water restriction has been lowered, other water restrictions do remain in place.

Black Bear Attacks Man in Mariposa County |

Mariposa, CA...Wildlife officials are investigating a bear attack that resulted in serious injuries early this morning in Mariposa County. The attack occurred in the town of Midpines, when the man stepped out of his house in the dark. A large black bear struck the man from behind, knocking the victim to the ground. The man fought the bear, and in the struggle sustained multiple puncture wounds and lacerations to his head, legs, arms, abdomen, hands and feet. Although injured, the man was able to get away from the animal and drive himself to the hospital, where he was treated and released later in the day.

Portions Of State Route 108 Closed Next Week For Paving |

Sonora, CA...The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will close eastbound and westbound State Route 108 (SR-108) from SR-49/ Sonora Bypass to Yosemite Junction/ SR-120 for paving. Work is scheduled to begin Monday, August 17, 2015, through Friday, August 21, 2015, from 8:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.

Sonora, CA... 9 Aug. 2015, at approx. 12:50 am, a subject called the police department and reported seeing a large mountain lion in the area of Highway 49 and Columbia Way, inside the City limits. Officers responded and located the lion in the backyard of a residence on the 100 block of Columbia Way...

Assault With A Deadly Weapon In Felony Hit n Run Case |

Sonora, CA...On Friday, 8/7/15, about 10:15 P.M. Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office Deputies were dispatched to the 21000 block of Crestview Drive on a request for assistance by CHP who were on scene of a traffic collision. Responding Deputies met with the California Highway Patrol Officers on scene. It was determined the traffic collision may be an intentional act, so the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office assumed the investigation.

Bryon Stutts, 29 From San Jose Lost His Life in Hwy 132 Accident |

La Grange, CA.... Bryon Stutts, 29 From San Jose lost his life in an accident on Hwy 132 Sunday afternoon. A 30 year old San Jose woman was driving her 2004 Honda eastbound on highway 132 East of Bonds Flat Road at undetermined rate of speed. The driver allowed her vehicle to swerve to the right and the right side tires to drift off the paved roadway. The driver attempted to steer the vehicle back on the road way, but over corrected as she swerved the vehicle to the left. The Honda slid in the north easterly direction, traveled across the westbound lane and off the North roadway edge of Highway 132 to before rolling over as it travels down a steep steep embankment.
