Sonora, CA...Driving in heavy rain can cause the potential of poor visibility and hydroplaning. If you’re going too fast and end up hydroplaning keep in the direction you want to go and do not brake hard. With all of the flooding brought on by the heavy rain, do not get in too deep. If water is covering the markings on the road, it’s too deep to drive on. You can lose control with as little as three inches of water on the road.

Felony Arrest For Brandishing A Knife, Criminal Threats, & Resisting Arrest

Sonora, CA...On Wednesday February 8th, 2017, at around 12:45 p.m., Officers of the Sonora Police Department were dispatched the Enrichment Center on Hospital Road for a report of a man brandishing a knife. Officer Memmer arrived on scene and was directed to 30-year-old Levi Elden Coon, who was still inside of the building. When Officer Memmer attempted to detain Coon, he made an aggressive movement toward him. Officer Memmer and Sergeant Rogers were able to grab hold of Coon, but he continued resisting and had to be forced to the ground in order to be subdued and arrested. Thankfully, neither the officers nor Mr. Coon sustained injuries during the altercation.

The Beat Goes On – Heart Walk 2017

Sonora, CA...February is American Heart Month and Sonora Regional Medical Center is promoting healthy lifestyles with Heart Walk. The community is invited to join staff and cardiac patients on Friday, February 17, at noon outside of the hospital’s ambulance entrance for a one-mile walk. Healthy refreshments will be provided and the first 200 participants will receive a free t-shirt. The walk is scheduled rain or shine so wear your walking boots and bring your favorite rain coat or umbrella.

Rec Areas & Trail Temporarily Closed On Stanislaus National Forest Due To Rain Event

Sonora, CA...The Groveland Ranger District on the Stanislaus National Forest temporarily closed recreation sites today due to flooding during heavy rains. Forest staff will reassess conditions Feb. 10 after the rain event is scheduled to end to determine when the sites can reopen.
